Job Description:
Position Summary: A Cardiac Technician (CT) working in the Non-InvasiveCardiology Department works under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or designee. Responsible for performing 12 lead electrocardiograms (ECG), initiating holter monitors, initiating cardiac event monitors to include placement of electrodes, and preparation of preliminary reports for final over read by physician. Observes central display of cardiac telemetry monitors. Must be able to identify cardiac arrhythmias and respond to any changes according to policy and procedures to ensure patient safety. Education: High School Graduate or GED equivalent. Experience: Experience in a patient care setting, preferred. Previous experience performing 12-lead ECGs and/or interpreting cardiac arrhythmias, preferred. Computer experience, preferred. Licensure: Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), preferred. Must pass initial arrhythmia course with 90% accuracy, as provided by Erlanger, within ninety (90) days of employment. Must maintain a 90% passing rate with annual credentialing. Core Competencies: 1. Maintains 90% accuracy on cardiac arrhythmia test on annual basis. 2. Maintains constant observation of central telemetry when assigned to the central monitor room. 3. Correctly initiates central telemetry as outlined in policy and procedure. 4. Alarms checked on each patient admitted to the PatientNet system as outlined in policy and procedure. 5. Notifies unit Staff Nurse and/or physician of change in patient's rate and rhythm in a timely manner, as outlined in policy and procedures. 6. Documents all notifications as outlined in policy and procedure. 7. All test/procedures initiated and completed as outlined by policy ad procedure. 8. Initial reports completed to allow for timely and accurate over read by physician. 9. Able to initiate Cardiac Event Monitor and effectively educate patient about equipment to be used, required documentation and process to terminate monitoring period. 10. Able to initiate holter monitor and effectively educate patient about equipment to be used, required documentation and process to terminate monitoring period. 11. Able to perform various electrocardiograms (ECGs), as ordered by the physician. 12. Able to access Tracemaster (digital storage of ECGs) to print preliminary and final ECG reports. 13. Basic understanding of cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology. 14. Basic understanding of preliminary 12-lead ECG reports. 15. Performs work assignments to best of ability that allows for maximum productivity in the department. 16. Relieves for and returns from breaks/lunch in a timely manner. 17. Maintains a clean and clutter free work area. 18. Able to manage necessary patient information with the Invision system. 19. Maintain current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. 20. Understands basic lead placement for telemetry transceivers. 21. Able to troubleshoot transceivers to ensure reception in central telemetry. Equipment: 22. Philips PageWriter Touch 23.
