Job Description:
The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in overseeing the accounting operations of a growing technology and defense contractor. This role is responsible for managing the month-end close process, ensuring compliance with government contracting regulations, and maintaining accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in a GovCon environment, including knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements, and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented setting.ResponsibilitiesSupport the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payrollLead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reportingPrepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statementsEnsure compliance with FAR, CAS, and DCAA regulations and internal accounting policiesOversee project accounting, including revenue recognition, cost allocation, and contract setupSupport indirect rate calculations, including fringe, overhead, and G&A, and monitor provisional billing ratesAssist with preparation of Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS) and support government auditsPartner with FP&A and program teams to analyze financial performance and project profitabilityMaintain and strengthen internal controls and support external audit activitiesAssist with system optimization and process improvements, including ERP enhancements (e.g., Unanet, Deltek Costpoint or similar)Supervise and mentor accounting staff, reviewing work and providing guidanceQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in government contractingStrong knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance requirementsExperience with project accounting, contract types (CPFF, T&M, FFP), and revenue recognitionHands-on experience with ERP systems such as Unanet or Deltek CostpointExperience with indirect rate structures and Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS)Advanced Excel skills
