The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System's, Geriatrics and Extended Care Service is seeking an experienced Physician (Geriatrics) responsible for collaborating with the HBPC Medical Director for the overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team. This position is aligned under Section Chief of Home Based Primary Care. This position is located at Lee County Healthcare Center located in Cape Coral, Florida. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Duties include but are not limited to: * Incumbent spends 70% of time with clinical responsibilities and 30% administrative responsibilities * Provide supervision, as appropriately, of residents and students conducting direct clinical care * Diagnose and treat medical and geriatric disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care * Ensure Medical Care Plan oversight at HBPC team meetings by either actively participating in HBPC team meetings or delegating an HBPC Team Physician to participate at team meetings * Provide cross coverage for other HBPC Physicians during absences, as well as night on-call coverage of patients in Community Living Center (CLC). This includes occasional weekend and holiday coverage * Provide readily accessible and prompt response to calls from team members currently in a Veteran's home with urgent need for consultation or physician orders. * Provide clinical oversight of HBPC providers. This includes supervisory visits to ensure that the HBPC staff meet joint commission requirements for home visits and that standards of medical care are being met * Maintain full clinical privilege as a member of the Medical Staff.Is responsible for timely completion of all program evaluations and documents required by the Joint Commission, ensuring compliance and monitoring entities as appropriate. Participates with leadership team to prepare for and participate in Joint Commission surveys. * Monitoring and reporting to the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Integrated Clinical Communities (REC ICC) Committee regarding status of HBPC Quality Measures, with implementation of needed action plans regarding QM * Assists the HBPC Medical director on the coordination of HBPC services response in the event of critical occurrences of violence at the facility, disasters, and/or mass casualty occurrences. * The incumbent participates in planning, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive program to ensure compliance with applicable standards * Collaborate with the Program Director and Medical Director to advise the Chief of GEC about the adequacy and appropriateness of the scope of services, space, and staffing levels to the needs presently and in the future * The HBPC Assistant Medical Director will cross cover the duties of the Medical Director in his/her absence to include arranging physician and provider coverage in the event of an unplanned absence. * Ensures the implementation and maintenance of standards for medical providers and forecasts requirements necessary to maintain and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical care. This includes participation in establishing policies, procedures, and guidelines for the delivery of services. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8::00 am - 4:30 pm(Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
