Job Title: ControllerLocation: Calverton, NY (Suffolk County / Long Island) Reports to: CEO / Senior Management Industry: Steel Manufacturing (Privately Held) Employment Type: Full-TimePosition SummaryWe are a privately held steel manufacturing company with over 35 years of industry experience, seeking a dependable, hands-on Controller to manage the company’s day-to-day financial operations. This role works closely with the CEO and senior management and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting operational decision-making, and ensuring strong financial controls.The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable wearing multiple hats, and experienced in a lean, privately owned business environment. This is a high-visibility role where your financial expertise will directly impact business operations and growth.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & ReportingManage general ledger and oversee month-end and year-end close processesPrepare accurate financial statements and internal management reportsProvide clear financial reporting and analysis to the CEO and senior managementManage cash flow, banking relationships, and working capitalAssist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planningManufacturing & Cost AccountingMaintain and analyze product costs, job costing, and gross marginsOversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and physical inventoriesAnalyze labor, overhead, and material variancesPartner with operations to improve cost controls and profitabilityPayroll & Benefits CoordinationCoordinate with third-party payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payroll processingReview payroll reports and resolve payroll-related questionsMaintain payroll documentation and related recordsInsurance & Records ManagementMaintain records for company insurance policies (general liability, workers’ compensation, property, etc.)Coordinate with insurance brokers on renewals, audits, and claimsEnsure certificates of insurance and compliance documentation are up to dateInternal Controls & ComplianceMaintain internal accounting controls and procedures appropriate for a privately held businessCoordinate tax filings, audits, and work with external accountantsEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirementsMaintain accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and dataCollaboration & Operational SupportWork closely with ownership, management, and operations teamsProvide financial insight to support business decisionsAssist with process improvements and system enhancementsQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environmentStrong proficiency in QuickBooks (required)Working knowledge of cost accounting and inventory managementStrong Excel and analytical skillsHighly organized, detail-oriented, and dependablePreferredCPA or CMA designationExperience in a privately held or family-owned businessCompensation & BenefitsSalary Range: Depending on experience and qualificationsPerformance bonus potentialComprehensive benefits package401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysAbout Us:Established steel manufacturing company with 35+ years of industry experiencePrivately held company with stable, long-term visionDirect access to ownership and senior leadershipHigh level of responsibility and autonomyOpportunity to make a meaningful impact on business operations and growth
