JOB SUMMARY: The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the district'stransportation program, ensuring that student transportation is safe, efficient, and in compliancewith all state and federal regulations. This position includes oversight of bus routes, driversupervision, safety training, bus maintenance, and fleet coordination.REPORTS TO: Superintendent or DesigneePERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Regularly drives a bus route as needed.2. Organizes, reviews, and updates bus routes, including daily routes, activity trips, CougarCollege, and summer school transportation3. Assigns and coordinates substitute drivers as needed4. Supervises and evaluates bus drivers and the bus mechanic5. Plans and coordinates a district transportation training and safety program, including:1. Instructs all drivers in proper bus and student safety2. Planning and coordinating driver training and attendance at workshops3. Monitors bus loading and unloading on a periodic basis4. Oversees bus evacuation drills according to DESE regulations and maintainsrequired records6. Develops and implements a district transportation safety program7. Provides training and instruction to drivers on bus safety, student safety, and proper useof two-way radios8. Conducts and documents bus evacuation drills in accordance with DESE requirements9. Monitors bus loading and unloading procedures and maintains periodic communicationwith drivers during routes10. Assists the Superintendent in addressing driver concerns related to safety and operations11. Assists in decisions regarding inclement weather delays, cancellations, and earlydismissals12. Interviews and recommends prospective bus drivers for hire13. Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations andreporting requirements14. Investigates and documents accidents and submits required reports to the Superintendentand DESE15. Maintains driver certification, licensing, and required health documentation records16. Supervises bus mechanic and coordinates necessary repairs. (If the supervisor is alsoqualified to serve as a mechanic, additional compensation would be included.)17. Coordinates preventative maintenance programs for district buses and maintains servicerecords18. Prepares buses and documentation for annual Missouri State Highway Patrol inspectionsand internal inspections19. Maintains required safety documentation, including MSDS files20. Works with building administrators and staff to address student behavior concerns onbuses21. Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient transportation office/work area22. Meets regularly with the Superintendent to communicate transportation concerns andoperational updates23. Performs other duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides direct supervision of bus drivers and the bus mechanic. Responsibilities includeassigning work, monitoring performance, conducting evaluations, and providing operationaldirection and support.Qualifications:Must hold a valid school bus operator's license.Must hold school bus driver trainer certification or demonstrate the ability to become certified.4 years of successful experience as a school bus driver is required; previous supervisory and coordination experience preferred.Experience as a mechanic is preferred (the district also employs a part-time mechanic)To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
