Description The Natural Resource Intern is responsible for assisting with all activities, operations, and aspects related to natural resource management. Tentative Start: May 11Tentative End: August 28Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 3:30 PMGeneral Description/ Responsibilities Assist with general tasks of pollinator gardens, Rain gardens, trails, prairies, wetlands, woodland, and other maintained areas. Removing fallen trees, pruning, trimming, mulching, blowing, and raking leaves and debris. Removing invasive or undesirable vegetation. Clearing access areas on trails, paths, and parking lots using loppers, gas-powered trimmers, and blowers. Mixing and applying herbicides. Planting and watering shrubs and trees. Plant trees, shrubs, and flowers. Native landscape installations. Assist in updating and maintaining tree inventory. Employee operates a variety of hand/gas-operated tools, such as weed eaters, chainsaws, riding lawnmowers, shovels, tractors, excavation equipment, and trucks Assist park staff in maintaining an accurate and organized filing system Keep records of work completed Operate a motor vehicle Assist in the daily operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the grounds of the department. Responsible for depositing and packing trash and recycling materials, debris, grass, brush, and over into collection vehicles. Assist with special event setup and tear-downs. Make minor repairs to park restrooms, shelters, picnic tables, and other park structures and facilities. Thoroughly clean restrooms, stock supplies, and check the restroom to ensure everything is in working order. Responsible for checking park properties and facilities for vandalism, broken glass, graffiti, broken amenities and equipment, and other potential hazards to the public. Responsible for maintaining grounds by picking up litter and debris, cutting grass, weed whipping, and general cleanup. RequirementsQualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty according to the requirements of the Town of Brownsburg. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent, working towards a bachelor's or associate's degree in natural resources management or related field or a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge,Skills,and Abilities: Must have a verifiable Indiana Driver's License and a demonstrated safe driving record and remain insurable through the Town's liability insurance carrier. Must have general computer knowledge with experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Must have basic knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and the ability to understand information from various sources and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must have a safe work record, good ethics, and dependable attendance record. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move, with assistance, more than 80 pounds using Personal Protection Equipment. Must be able to work independently and to complete daily activities. Must be able to work weekends and/or evenings during peak times.
