Note: Only those serving in the civil service title of Associated Water Use Inspector will be considered. The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Customer Services (BCS) oversees the production and collection of water and wastewater bills along with all the work required to maintain our citywide network of meters and meter reading devices. Bureau of Customer Services serves approximately 836,000 customers and collects more than $4.5 billion in revenue each year. The Bureau of Customer Services seeks an experienced Associate Water Use Inspector Level I to advance to the position of Associate Water Use Inspector Level II. The selected candidate will work under the direction of the Chief Inspector, the Office Supervisor: * Direct one or more moderate-sized Borough-wide Water Use Inspection Programs by assigning, supervising, counseling and evaluating the work of inspectors of lower rank; * Prepare in-service training programs; * Plan and direct special programs and surveys; * Interprets and enforce the rules and regulations of the Department; * Review, evaluate, and advise on any submissions pertaining to the sale and use of water. * Prepare and review reports and, when required, makes special inspections; * Directs follow-up inspections where warnings and violations have been issued based on management information service reports. * Coordinates summons and violation submission to the Environmental Control Board, including personnel required to appear before the Board. In addition, the Office Supervisor may: * Assist in the planning of inspection programs based on data processing reports and management information service projections; represent the Department at the Environmental Control Board; * Temporarily serve as Chief Inspector * Drive a motor vehicle. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
