Job Description:
Position Overview: The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will be expected to support the EHS Manager, assisting in the development and implementation of company programs, and ensuring that regulatory compliance is maintained, and program expectations are met.The qualified candidate should have up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legislation and should collate and maintain all supporting documentation. Strong organizational skills are required for this position, as well as the ability to engage well with a diverse set of constituents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure that the workplace is free from hazards that could cause injury, illness, or incident by maintaining compliance with government regulations through training, inspections, and audits, and by implementing EHS programs. Ensure that all required documentation is collected, maintained, and archived. Use data to produce reports and identify patterns for hazard prevention controls. Provide input regarding the purchase of new equipment, ensuring that the equipment purchased meets all relevant regulations. Provide safety briefings to contractors that come onto the site. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Education: Completion of college coursework in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Health and Safety, or a related field is required. Preferred Education: Relevant certifications are preferred. Preferred Experience: Some experience of working in an Environmental Health and Safety role. Competencies and Skills: Physical Demands: A valid current driver's license is required. Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations. Ability to identify hazards. Ability to investigate incidents. Ability to assist in the delivery of EHS programs. Ability to work well as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Good problem-solving abilities. Flexibility, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to maintain records. Strong computer literacy. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer. Ability to move around the facility on a regular basis to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting items of up to 20 lbs. unassisted, bending, standing, climbing or walking. Visual and hearing acuity.
