Salary: $20.50 - $23.00 Hourly Location : Breckenridge Recreation Center, CO Job Type: Summer Seasonal Job Number: 2026-00051 Department: Community Development Division: Community Development - Open Space & Trails Opening Date: 02/18/2026 Closing Date: Continuous Position Summary The Town of Breckenridge Open Space and Trails Division is seeking dedicated and customer service-oriented individuals for the position of Open Space & Trails Naturalist - Summer Seasonal. Individuals in this position are responsible for educating the public about Cucumber Gulch, redirecting visitors during the annual closure of the Gulch, conducting research and data collection in coordination with Open Space staff and contractors, and educating and communicating information about local natural resources. This is a position of significant customer service impact. The primary purpose is education and communication with the public about Cucumber Gulch, a sensitive rare fen wetland and wildlife preserve in Breckenridge. Implementation of programs and services involves being an ambassador for Open Space & Trails by communicating the division's research and management activities, collecting data and information on visitors and trail usage, maintaining trail and wildlife cameras, and assisting in wildlife research studies. Other duties include performing light maintenance, driving Town vehicles within non-commercial limits, interfacing with the general public and businesses, enforcing the Division's policies and procedures, and ensuring safety. The incumbent must be capable of walking up to five (5) miles per day. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age or older. High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word and Outlook. LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: A valid Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record is required within 30 days of employment. Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) Certification preferred. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate's degree or equivalent from a two (2)-year college or technical school in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Education, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecosystems preferred. Additional InformationTypical Hiring Pay Range: $20.50 - $21.75 per hour. WORK SCHEDULE Primary shifts for this position vary, but are generally between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with a typical schedule of 40 hours per week including weekends. Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early morning, late nights, weekends and holidays. All interested applicants must be available to work through the summer seasonal period established by the Open Space & Trails Division, which generally extends through mid-October.
