Key Responsibilities: Installation and Splicing: Oversee the installation, termination, labeling, and routing of fiber optic and copper cables in diverse settings, including underground, aerial, and data centers. Execute precise fusion and mechanical splicing techniques to minimize signal loss. Testing and Troubleshooting: Employ advanced tools such as Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) and power meters for thorough end-to-end testing. Diagnose issues effectively and confirm network performance. Maintenance and Repair: Conduct routine maintenance and respond swiftly to service interruptions. Identify and mend issues, replacing faulty cables and equipment promptly. Documentation and Reporting: Ensure meticulous recording of installations, testing, repairs, and materials, using digital mapping tools for efficient project tracking. Safety and Compliance: Comply with safety protocols and industry regulations when working with laser and electrical equipment in various field conditions. Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and teammates to facilitate smooth project processes and guarantee successful outcomes. Key Qualifications and Skills: Experience: 2-4 years in fiber optics or telecommunications, emphasizing long-haul projects. Ability to interpret technical diagrams and schematics is crucial. Technical Proficiency: Hands-on skills in fiber optic testing and troubleshooting, including: Fiber Inspection and Cleaning OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) Power Meter Fiber QuickMap OLTS (Optical Loss Test Set) ORL (Optical Return Loss) Gig-E Testing Visual Fault Locator (VFL) Physical and Environmental Demands: Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Open to working outdoors in diverse weather conditions and available for frequent travel (up to 80-90% travel required). Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, strong communication, adaptability, and comfort in both independent and collaborative environments. Certifications and Licensing: While certifications such as the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) are advantageous, they are not required.
