Position Overview: Join us as a Long-Distance Fiber Optic Technician and become vital to the installation, maintenance, and testing of fiber optic networks, enabling seamless long-distance data transmission. Key Responsibilities: Installation and Splicing: Take charge of installations, terminations, labeling, and routing of fiber optic and copper cables in various environments, including underground, aerial, and data centers. Perform precise fusion and mechanical splicing to ensure minimal signal loss. Testing and Troubleshooting: Utilize advanced tools like Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) and power meters for comprehensive end-to-end testing. Diagnose and resolve issues to validate network performance and functionality. Maintenance and Repair: Execute routine maintenance and promptly respond to service outages. Identify problems, repair damaged cables, and ensure timely replacement of faulty equipment. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of installations, testing results, repair activities, and material usage, leveraging digital mapping tools to facilitate project tracking. Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety procedures and industry regulations while working with laser and electrical equipment in diverse field environments. Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and team members to ensure smooth project execution and successful delivery. Key Qualifications and Skills: Experience: A minimum of 2-4 years of field experience in fiber optics or related telecommunications fields, with a strong emphasis on long-haul projects. Proficiency in interpreting technical diagrams and schematics is essential. Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with fiber optic testing and troubleshooting utilizing: Fiber Inspection and Cleaning OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) Power Meter Fiber QuickMap OLTS (Optical Loss Test Set) ORL (Optical Return Loss) Gig-E Testing Visual Fault Locator (VFL) Physical and Environmental Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel frequently (up to 80-90% travel required). Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective communication, adaptability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in high-pressure settings. Certifications and Licensing: While certifications such as the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) are preferred, they are not mandatory for this role. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
