Position Summary The Reconstruction Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and detailed cost estimates for residential and commercial reconstruction projects following water, fire, or storm damage. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are properly scoped, competitively priced, and executed within budget. The Reconstruction Estimator works closely with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, adjusters, and property owners to produce thorough estimates, manage the bidding process, and support successful project completion. The ideal candidate has strong experience in insurance-based restoration estimating, subcontractor negotiation, and reconstruction project costing. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Scope Development Conduct site visits to assess damage and determine full reconstruction scope. Develop detailed and accurate estimates using Xactimate for residential and commercial rebuild projects. Analyze labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and subcontractor costs. Prepare comprehensive scopes of work and supporting documentation for insurance carriers and clients. Review mitigation documentation to ensure complete and accurate reconstruction scoping. Bidding & Subcontractor Management Solicit and review subcontractor bids for trades including framing, drywall, flooring, cabinetry, painting, roofing, and specialty services. Negotiate pricing and terms with subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive and profitable project outcomes. Evaluate proposals to confirm scope alignment and cost accuracy. Maintain strong relationships with trade partners and suppliers. Budget & Project Oversight Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure projects stay aligned with approved estimates and budgets. Identify scope changes and prepare supplements as needed. Monitor costs throughout the reconstruction process and adjust estimates when required. Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing records. Insurance & Compliance Communicate directly with insurance adjusters regarding scope clarification, supplements, and approvals. Ensure estimates comply with building codes, local regulations, and safety standards. Maintain accurate documentation in company systems. Customer & Team Collaboration Provide professional and responsive communication with homeowners and commercial clients. Explain scope and pricing clearly to customers when necessary. Coordinate closely with mitigation, production, and administrative teams to ensure seamless file transitions. Uphold SerClean's standards of professionalism, quality, and customer satisfaction. QualificationsEducation Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred (not required). Experience 2+ years of reconstruction estimating experience in restoration or construction industry preferred. Strong experience writing insurance-based estimates in Xactimate required. Experience preparing and negotiating supplements with insurance carriers. Solid understanding of residential and light commercial construction methods and materials. Knowledge of local building codes and OSHA safety standards. Technical Skills Proficiency in Xactimate (required). Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook). Experience with construction management software preferred. Familiarity with DASH or similar documentation systems is a plus. Core Competencies Highly organized and detail-oriented.
