Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within CPF, Facility Operations maintains our physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services all with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and inspects smoke and fire suppression systems (nitrogen and dry systems) fire alarm systems (addressable and non-addressable), video distribution systems, security and access control systems, and other low voltage systems using hand/power tools, and specialized tools and equipment. Installs and repairs new and existing security, fire, access control and similar equipment to determine if equipment is in good condition. Requests parts, materials, and supplies. Manipulates IP addresses, and has functional knowledge of Camera software and Ademco Software. Possess knowledge of different systems (Simplex, Siemens, Notifier, Ademco, Fire-Lite). Troubleshoots miscellaneous electrical systems including but not limited to Verdin Clocks, emergency Warning Sirens, etc. General Responsibilities Installs pathways and spaces for installation of low voltage wiring. Installs, terminates, and tests wires and cables, both copper and fiber-optic. Installs, tests, and troubleshoots cabling systems. Installs communications and sound distribution systems. Installs prefabricated systems, such as controllers, dimming systems, life/safety systems, and energy management systems. Performs testing, analysis, and repair of video, voice, and data systems. Utilizes tools and equipment in a safe manner as well as following all applicable safety rules and procedures. Reviews and makes applicable recommendations to drawings, blueprints, and construction specifications. Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed. Orders replacement parts and components as needed. Provides documentation as required for field work and assignments. Assists in providing work estimates on assigned projects. Available for emergency call-outs and overtime as required. Drives vehicle if needed. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds Working Conditions / Demands This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception.
