The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation:PrimarySupervises and assists assigned crew to ensure compliance with work orders. Ensures assigned work is completed in a timely fashion.Maintains, repairs, and constructs water, sanitary sewer, and storm water infrastructure using appropriate equipment, including jack hammer, backhoe, hoe ram, mole and tap machine, surveyor level, pipe laser, street, saw, asphalt roller, and various hand tools.Oversees and assists with restoration of roads, sidewalks and yards. Cleans the work site as needed. Ensures job site safety, proper placement of warning, detour, and related signs as needed, during repair operations.Use an asset management software (City Works) to track projects, updating the Assistant Superintendent, as required.Ensures appropriate equipment and machinery is available at the work site, and service trucks contain necessary parts and tools to allow necessary maintenance and repairs.Assists in on-the-job training of new employees, as needed. Performs related duties as assigned.SecondaryAttend pre/post construction meetings about projects.Assist in hiring of candidates for the T&D DivisionAttend meetings in replacement of assigned Assistant Superintendent Job Requirements High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.Experience in water, wastewater, and storm water construction industry. Knowledge of and skill in the operation of department vehicles and equipment.Knowledge of standard practices and techniques of water and sewer line maintenance, and ability to use appropriate tools and parts in necessary maintenance and repairs.Ability to read and understand construction plans and architectural drawings for water line placement and construction drawings for water, sewer, and stormwater.Knowledge of basic operations of the department, and ability to properly assign manpower in response to supervisor's instructions.Ability to supervise and direct the work of others. Ability to give meaningful instructions, and the proper training of personnel.Knowledge of safety precautions for working in or around department vehicles and equipment, including ability to operate equipment in conned areas.Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement or permit required. If the incumbent holds a permit, they must be able to get Class B with airbrake CDL within the first 120 days of employment.Current Class A or B CDL, preferred.Ability to obtain a Distribution System Operator License (DSL) within the first 24 months of employment and must maintain this certification through the required continuing education requirements by the State of Indiana Difficulty of Work and Personal Work Relationship Difficulty of WorkHighly physical effort is exerted in the set up and operation of tools and equipment, including bending, stooping, and movement of extremities necessary to handle equipment controls. Highly physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time.Performs majority of duties outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and is frequently exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Employees may elect the High Deductible Insurance plan with the City providing an HSA contribution and if the employee is a non-smoker or participating in the Tobacco Cessation program, the employee only plan is at no cost to the employee. Employees and their dependents (ages 3 and up) who are on the City's health insurance may utilize the City Employee Health Clinic. Employees may receive over $2,400 per year in HSA contributions and wellness reimbursements, insurance discounts, and incentives. The City offers life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, and long term disability insurance at no cost to employees. Employees may elect voluntary term life and short-term disability insurance. After 1 year of employment, six weeks of paid parental leave are available to eligible employees.
