(DSI) Job Description POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of Nursing DIVISION: Nursing SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt PURPOSE: Our agency strongly believes that every individual deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential, including employment, continuing education and community participation. The nurse is responsible for providing health care coordination, training and development of health services and supports for DSI clients. The right candidate will mentor and provide compassionate support to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while working to further the agency mission. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: * Ensure and monitor that clients are receiving proper health care coordination services * Evaluate the clients need for nursing services and report quarterly. Develop the annual Health Care plan and update as needed * Participate in the development of discharge plans with identified clients with medical needs if needed * Act as a liaison between external health providers and the IDT * Assist in the implementation and oversight of appropriate policies and procedures related to health and safety. Implement and carry out infection control policies. * Adhere to state and agency policies and guidelines * Rotate on call duties with other nurses and respond to emergency medical calls from staff * Monitor, order, and stock medical supplies * Follow treatment and medication plans for clients as recommended by a physician * Maintain accurate medical files and documentation for clients * Provide direct care and first aid to clients * Provide training in the areas of medication administration, Infectious Disease, and other specialized health related training * Complete required training, including CPR and First Aid and ongoing professional development * Demonstrates working knowledge of nursing care in accordance with Client Care Policies and Procedures * Coordinates orientation of nursing personnel as needed * Assist in the supervision of nursing personnel. Participates in staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation, and evaluation of nursing staff as needed/directed * Completes onsite/setting rounds/audits to assure proper care and a safe, clean client environment * Functions in the capacity of DON in his/her absence * Complete other duties as assigned ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS: * Excellent and professional communication skills, both oral and written. * Must possess critical thinking skills. * Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned. * Ability to work flexible, non-standard hours, including occasional evenings and weekends. Travel is required based on the needs of the client supported * Nurses may be required to lift, stand, sit, squat, bend at the waist and knees, climb stairs, and participate in active treatment while meeting with clients. * When working with any individual, there is always the possibility of aggressive acts. Aggressive acts could consist of pulling, pushing, pinching, biting, hair pulling, kicking, slapping, punching, scratching, head butting, and throwing objects. Employees are responsible for wearing appropriate slip resistant footwear consistent with job requirements and using Agency-provided personal protective equipment as appropriate REQUIREMENTS: * High School Diploma or GED required * Experience in providing services to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred * Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse with valid Indiana State License from an accredited school of nursing required * Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information. * Maintain a valid Indiana driver's license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
