Job Description:
Responsibilities: Sign up for wishes as a team – either with a partner of choice or with an assigned partner. Visit the wish child virtually or in-person and help them brainstorm wish ideas Complete wish paperwork and obtain necessary documentation. Put the magic into each wish by planning and delivering “wish boosts” – special, creative touches throughout the wish process that keep the child excited about their wish. Solicit in-kind donations (goods or services) and help us use resources wisely. Serve as a point of contact between the family and the Foundation – help keep the family updated on the status of the wish, answer questions, and develop a positive rapport with the child and family. Plan a “send-off” or “presentation” party for the wish child as appropriate (can be virtual, or just a delivery of a special gift, as appropriate for the wish and circumstances) Be a reliable, communicative, and productive member of the “wish team” – work closely with a volunteer partner and the Make-A-Wish staff to create the best possible wish experience for the child. Availability: • Wish discovery visits are typically scheduled for weekday evenings or weekends based upon the schedules of the wish granters and the wish family. Required Training: • Completion of online orientation. • Completion of Wish Granter Training, followed by a wrap-up call. A self-guided virtual training taking approximately 1.5 hours is offered at any time, and 1 hour wrap-up calls are scheduled 12 times a year. Desired Qualifications: • Love for children and comfort interacting with children ages 2 ½ to 18. • Excellent people skills and the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and children with various medical conditions. • Creative energy with a desire to make each wish unique and magical. • Organized and detail-oriented. • Ability to respond to the family, fellow volunteers and Make-A-Wish staff in a timely manner. • Resourcefulness and willingness to solicit in-kind donations. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Ability to meet face-to-face or virtually with the wish child and their family on several occasions including, but not limited to, the initial visit, send off/presentation party, or to deliver wish boosts • Enough flexibility to schedule visits with the family and other volunteer wish granters. • Ability to pass a background check • Bilingual a plus
