Applications Engineer

Job DescriptionTITLE: Applications Engineer Comp: $90,000-$110,000 Location: Berne, Indiana Our client is seeking immediate assistance in identifying a candidate for an Applications Engineer direct hire position in Berne, Indiana. Responsibilities: Conceptualize and define customer requirements for automated systems and assembly solutions. Compile comprehensive, cost-effective estimates covering mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and assembly hours for individual stations or complete machines/cells. Develop detailed proposals, including clear, concise documentation and AutoCAD layout drawings. Partner with the Sales team to scope opportunities, support the quoting process, and assist in closing orders. Interface directly with customers to communicate technical details such as cycle times, machine capabilities, and sequence of operations. Develop machine cycle time studies and apply engineering calculations to validate system performance. Estimate material costs, labor hours, and project timelines for projects ranging from $1-2M up to $12M+. Analyze job costs and understand job cost evaluation procedures to improve future estimates and profitability. Collaborate with suppliers to obtain competitive quotes for support equipment and services. Provide technical guidance to Engineering and the assembly floor regarding proposal requirements and system expectations. Confirm design components and procedures align with best engineering practices. Provide technical support to the Automation department as needed. Travel to customer sites as required. Required Skills & Qualifications: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field required. Working knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards, along with familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems. Experience in a quoting or estimating role involving complete systems (e.g., automation, sheet metal assemblies, equipment with moving components) rather than single-product estimation. Strong ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both internal teams and external customers. Proficiency in 3D design software, with a solid understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading TERMS: This is a direct hire position that pays from $90,000 - $110,000/yr. #ENG123
