However, healthcare affordability and the mental health/substance misuse crisis are struggles for many in the region. SVMC is a comprehensive, not-for-profit health system serving more than 80,000 people in VT, NY, and MA. Member Duties : The VISTA will collaborate with diverse community partners and other VISTAs in the region to develop programs that address healthcare unaffordability and the mental health/substance misuse crisis. Projects will be tailored to the VISTA's specific passions and linked to their career goals. The VISTA will utilize their unique background and skillset to design and implement projects that address employment gaps for vulnerable groups, empower youth to achieve career/educational goals, support substance-use recovery, increase access to primary care, prevent youth substance use, tackle food insecurity and housing challenges, and many more. The VISTA will learn project management, write small grants to support their projects and collaborate with Community Health interns. SVMC will provide a small housing subsidy, and SVMC's cafeteria will provide one free meal per day. The VISTA should be prepared to adhere to all hospital protocols, including mandated vaccinations.
