Job Description:
The 2nd Shift CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision parts and components. This role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, ensure high-quality standards, and optimize machining processes for efficiency and accuracy.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, routers) to produce parts according to specificationsInterpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD modelsSelect appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each jobPerform machine setup including offsets, tool changes, and program adjustmentsMonitor machine operations to ensure quality and efficiencyInspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)Maintain tight tolerances and ensure compliance with quality standardsTroubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustmentsPerform routine maintenance on machines and equipmentMaintain a clean and organized work environmentDocument production and quality data as requiredQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred2+ years of CNC machining experience (level may vary: junior to senior)Proficiency with CNC controls (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Mazak)Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)Strong understanding of machining processes and materials (metals, plastics)Experience with precision measuring instrumentsBasic math and problem-solving skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with CNC programming (G-code or CAM software such as Mastercam)Background in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturingLean manufacturing or Six Sigma experienceAbility to work with tight tolerances and complex geometriesPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periodsLift up to 50 lbs as neededManual dexterity and attention to detailAbility to work in a manufacturing environment (noise, machinery, etc.)Work EnvironmentManufacturing/shop floor settingMay require shift work, overtime, or weekend hours depending on production needs
