Job Summary The Resident Director (RD) is a live in professional responsible for the comprehensive management, leadership, and daily operations of an assigned residence hall. This position ensures a safe, inclusive, academically supportive, and well¿maintained residential environment by supervising student staff, administering policies, coordinating educational initiatives, and responding to student needs. The RD also plays a key role in community development, crisis response, and departmental programming. Responsibilities Residential Community Management * Resides in an assigned residence hall and maintains a consistent, visible presence within the community. * Participates in and leads evening and weekend programming to enhance student engagement and belonging. * Responds to overnight emergencies and participates in the department¿s on¿call rotation. Student Development & Community Engagement * Develops, implements, and assesses initiatives designed to create a diverse, inclusive, and academically supportive residential hall community. * Collaborates with campus partners¿including Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Business Affairs¿to plan programs aligned with institutional learning outcomes. * Serves as a resource for residents seeking support, guidance, and referrals related to academic concerns, personal issues, or mental¿health needs. Operational & Facility Management * Oversees health and safety inspections, fire and tornado drills, and the room inventory process. * Coordinates student check¿ins and check¿outs at the beginning and end of each semester. * Manages the maintenance work order process and damage billing while partnering with Facilities to resolve issues promptly. * Conducts daily walk-throughs of the residence hall to identify maintenance concerns, safety issues, and community challenges. * Posts and updates signage, bulletin boards, and informational materials. Staff Supervision & Leadership * Recruits, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates Community Leaders (CLs) and other student staff. * Coordinates CL scheduling, duty coverage, and workload distribution. * Conducts regular staff meetings and maintains clear communication to foster teamwork, problem solving, and professional growth. Crisis Management & Student Conduct * Addresses and documents minor disciplinary issues; ensures proper reporting and follow¿up in accordance with institutional policies. * Educates residents on college policies, expectations, and consequences of infractions. Administrative Responsibilities * Assists with room assignments, meal plan coordination, and general administrative tasks. * Supports Housing and Residence Life marketing efforts through events, outreach, and publications. * Participates in required professional development and mandated trainings, including Title IX, Clery Act, and departmental training programs. * Serves as backup to the Housing and Residence Life Coordinator when necessary. * Provides assistance with student lockouts and other resident services. Campus Tours & Outreach * Conducts residence hall tours for prospective students, parents, campus partners, and special groups. * Presents the residential experience in a professional, welcoming manner that reflects departmental and institutional values. * Assists Admissions and other units with large¿scale recruitment events (e.g., Open House, Preview Days). Other Duties * Performs other duties as assigned in support of Housing and Residence Life operations and institutional goals. Required Qualifications Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of an associate's degree. Experience sufficient to understand the work of subordinate roles and to resolve issues, typically gained through three years of related experience or service. The role requires living on campus and being available during non-traditional hours. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of Housing and Residence Life policies, processes, and best practices. Knowledge of student conduct procedures and conflict resolution methods. Understanding of residential building operations, maintenance timelines, and facility safety standards. Skill in delegating responsibilities and supervising student staff. Proficiency with computer systems, housing software, and job¿related applications. Strong decision¿making, critical¿thinking, and problem¿solving skills. Skill in interpersonal communication, relationship building, and customer service.
