Duties include, but are not limited to, coordinating and overseeing the drill crews; planning and preparing for subsurface explorations; performing subsurface explorations; overseeing, directing, and scheduling the maintenance and repair of transport vehicles, drill rigs, and tooling; and managing the inventory of tooling, equipment, and supplies needed to support geotechnical drilling activities.Duties may include:Operate drill rig and oversee drilling operations for auger borings, rock coring, monitoring wells, instrumentation installation and other types of drilling as requiredKnow when to use different drilling methodsCollect and log factual field data to the specifications and/or job instructions providedKeep a boring/coring log of data and samples obtained and other required informationTraining and supervision of drilling assistant on the drilling siteCommunication with project managers, clients, schedulers and supervisorsResponsible for daily production and efficient use of drill crew's time as required by scope of work for individual projectsResponsible for maintenance, repair and general condition of the drill rig, support truck and other equipmentMust be able to diagnose mechanical problems and perform necessary repairsResponsible for promoting and adhering to a safe work practiceUse required and approved personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing all functionsResponsible for the safety of the drill crew and other site personnelOperate drill rigs, tractor trailers and support vehicles in safe and lawful mannerMaintain necessary documentation relating to the operation of commercial motor vehicles Driving of DOT regulated vehicles and all responsibilities and knowledge that is required to stay in compliance with DOT requirementsDaily inspections of equipment to satisfy DOT requirements and the proper record keeping as required by DOT regulationsJob RequirementsEDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSHigh school diploma or GED requiredAt least two years related drilling experience requiredClass A Commercial Driver's License required40-hour Hazmat Training preferredValid driver's license required - Must be insurable by fleet insurer; driving history will be reviewed by agent and underwriterMust be able to pass a background check as required by military, industrial, port, and other client sites.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with OSHA guidelines and directives, in conjunction with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standardsMust be able to withstand regular exposure to outdoor worksite weather conditions that may be wet and/or humid environments, with extreme cold and/or heat; sites may be moderate to moderately loudMust be able to perform tasks that require long-term standing and/or repetitive motionsMay be required to drive long distances dailyMust be able to regularly lift, move, or shake up to 40 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 60-80 pounds, and occasionally move more than 100 poundsThis position requires travel and the ability to work with a small crew.Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
