Job Description Please note that for the first six calendar days of this posting, it is only open to ARW represented employees. PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide support to terminal personnel. Duties and Responsibilities: Walks the tracks and writes down car numbers to ensure accurate train lists are created for train crews. Drives crews to and from trains at various locations along the rail belt as needed. Performs transportation vehicle support including but not limited to the following: fueling vehicles, checking oil, and checking window washer fluid level. Performs some laborer duties. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed. Incumbent will be required to drive ARRC vehicle. Factor 1 - Knowledge Required High school diploma or GED required. Ability to read and write numbers accurately. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to safely operate an ARRC vehicle. Factor 2 - Supervisory Control Works under the direct supervision of the Trainmasters. Factor 3 - Guidelines Incumbent receives detailed instructions from the Transportation Managers. Decisions to depart from procedures or instructions must be approved by supervisor. Factor 4 - Complexity While some procedures are defined, in areas where procedures are not defined, incumbent gets direction from supervisor before proceeding. Factor 5 - Scope and Effect Must provide accurate information, follow processes and procedures, and meet deadlines. Work has a minor impact on railroad operations. Factor 6 - Personal Contacts Contacts include ARRC employees at various levels of the organization. Factor 7 - Purpose of Contact The purpose of the contacts are for sharing information and getting instructions. Factor 8 - Physical Demands Incumbent will be required to walk, climb, and bend to inspect rail cars and to perform periodic servicing of vehicles. Incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Motor vehicle license is required to transport train crews to and from various locations along the rail belt. Yard checks subject incumbent to current weather conditions. Factor 9 - Work Environment Incumbent will be required to work in the yard and drive train crews to and from jobs up and down the railbelt. Work must be performed on a 24/7 basis, therefore employees must work varying work days and shifts. Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED required. Significant work-related experience may be substituted for the education requirement. * Ability to read and write numbers accurately. * One (1) year of driving experience. * Valid and Active driver's license. Actual benefits differ by bargaining unit. Retirement Plans ARRC Pension Plan - Participation is mandatory. You are automatically enrolled in the Plan when you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Employees contribute 9% of their Earnings on a pre-tax basis. The Railroad is exempt from participation in Social Security; however, Medicare Tax is withheld.
