Job Requisition: LEADC001402 Employment Type: Full-time Shift: Days Hours Per Week: 40-hour/week Hiring range: $34.85 - $43.23 The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law. Responsibilities: Coordinate daily workflow, staff scheduling, and workload distribution within the Cytology Laboratory to ensure timely processing and reporting of all specimens. Microscopically examine gynecologic and non-gynecologic preparations for cytologic evaluation, correlating clinical information with morphologic findings to formulate primary and final diagnoses. Evaluate specimen adequacy for diagnostic purposes, considering quantity, quality, and preservation of cellular material. Report discrepancies to the clinical laboratory manager or pathologist. Formulate diagnoses by evaluating cell morphology and identifying variations from normal. Compare microscopic findings with recognized cytomorphologic criteria and consult reference materials or co-workers to resolve complex cases. Assist in the collection and processing of fine needle aspiration specimens. Conduct quality control assessments, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting within the Cytology Laboratory. Process specimens for analysis according to specifications related to specimen type, following established pre-analytic and analytic procedures. Review patient clinical data and compare microscopic findings. Formulate preliminary or final diagnoses using established terminology. Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and instrumentation. Ensure inventory levels support uninterrupted operations. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of policies and procedures for patient preparation, sample requirements, specimen collection, and pre-analytical factors affecting sample quality. Assist in documentation and submission of all required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics and reports. Serve as a technical resource and provide training, mentorship, and competency assessment for cytotechnologists and laboratory support staff. Perform administrative and operational tasks assigned, including data collection and special projects Additional Responsibilities: Participate in laboratory accreditation preparation and compliance activities. Assist with onboarding and orientation of new laboratory staff. Contribute to method validation and implementation of new testing procedures. Education, Training & Experience: Bachelor's degree or higher in cytotechnology from a program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or equivalent NYSED-registered program at the time of graduation. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Cytotechnologist in a clinical laboratory setting. Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred. Certification/Licensure: Cytotechnologist credential from the New York State Board of Clinical Laboratory Technology, obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Certification as CT(ASCP) or equivalent from a certifying agency approved by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) required. Required skills and attributes:Ability to organize and establish day-to-day priorities while applying critical thinking skills in all aspects of the job. Strong knowledge of cytology, histology, and technical laboratory procedures. Must be able to multitask while remaining professional, focused, composed and positive. Excellent customer service skills and must display integrity, friendliness, and compassion. Must be able to establish an appropriate and effective rapport with others. Must be flexible to take initiative and embrace new opportunities to grow both personally and organizationally. Problem solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Word, Excel. Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). Strong organizational skills. Strong critical thinking skills.
