The Certified School Nurse will oversee the health room operations, support nurse assistants, attend IEP's/504 meetings, track immunizations and notify parents, organize and manage screenings, communicate with staff, students and families, attend field trips, etc. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, work well in a team environment, and enjoy working with students. A valid School Nurse certificate issued by the PA Department of Education, License as a registered professional nurse (RN) in PA and current CPR and AED certification are required. Deadline for applications - March 5, 2026 or until filledESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The School Nurse's duties include but are not limited to the following:Planning and Coordination:Develop health service programs for the school population based upon ongoing needs assessment and identified priorities.Collaborate with other school disciplines, agencies, and families to plan and implement health service and health promotion activities.Oversee school health programs and services.Participate in the process of evaluating the developmental appropriateness of certain activities for students, including but not limited to physical education, adaptive programs for special needs students, baby-sitter training, and other activities.Curriculum Development/Health Education:Collaborate with school/community to design and deliver developmentally appropriate experiences for all students across the curriculum to produce positive health, wellness, and fitness outcomes.Participate in the development and maintenance of education programs which lead to healthy and safe school environments.Participate in the review of school food service programs and their effect on student related health behavior and nutrition.Advocacy:Serve as liaison with home, school, community agencies, and members of the medical/dental profession.Case Management:Facilitate an organized system of care coordination which includes an efficient/effective utilization of all available and appropriate resources that meet the needs of students and their families.Plan, interpret and establish health care plans for students with special health care needs (e.g. HIV/AIDS, diabetes, asthma) and evaluate outcomes of plans.Identify and refer high risk children to needed services, including those presenting signs of suspected child abuse and neglect.Participate directly in multidisciplinary team evaluations and individual education program meetings for exceptional students with medical or developmental problems.Participate in the Student Assistance Program providing interventions and support for students referred with substance abuse and mental health problems that interfere with their success in school.Quality Assurance:Establish a process to promote continuous evaluation and improvement of the school community health programs and services.Recommend policies and establish procedures/guidelines for nurses to practice in accordance with nursing theory and roles/standards of school nursing practice established by national/professional nursing organizations.Participate in the evaluation of school nursing services, including self-evaluation, auditing of school health records, and peer review.Health Promotion/Risk Reduction:Encourage the school community to develop and promote positive health behaviors.Promote a safe and healthy positive school environment, including adherence to all applicable state and federal health and safety regulations.Participate in the investigation and control of diseases and injuries among the school population.Act as an educator or resource person to facilitate learning of positive health and wellness behaviors for students, staff and parents.Direct Services:Using the nursing process to oversee and/or provide medical and nursing care to the school community in accordance with current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations.Provide and document nursing assessment, diagnosis and treatment.Perform and document physical and dental assessments and mandated screenings.Manage and control acute and chronic disease (including monitoring of immunization status).Maintain all records including but not limited to: medication administration, emergency student information, compilation of confidential student health list, daily health room log, end of year state report, referrals, and follow-up.Provide individual health teaching and counseling.Appropriately delegate and supervise ancillary staff in the performance of procedures and care.Provide crisis intervention.Professional Development:Maintain currency in the field and all requirements for continuing professional certifications.Participate in local, state and national professional organizations.Develop/maintain skills within the framework of nursing theory and standards of practice through continuing education activities.Participate in planning for continuing staff development activities for school staff.Develop ability to utilize medical and information technology within the school health programs.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing; School Nurse Certification; Current Pennsylvania Licensed Registered Nurse; and Current CPR certification.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
