The position assists surgeons and other surgical staff during the surgical procedure. The Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse, or other surgical personnel and maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field to maximize patient safety. The position ensures that the operating room environment is safe and needed equipment is available. The Surgical Technologist assists in the sterile processing department by performing sterilizing, assembly and storage of medical supplies and surgical equipment. Essential ResponsibilitiesPre-Procedure Help setup the operating room by ensuring the room is clean, wiped down, and all the equipment/instruments are available and in working order Stock surgical suppliesWash and sterilize all equipment by using germicides and sterilizers Account for needles, suture, sponges, and instrumentsAssist the Registered Nurse During Procedure Anticipate the surgeons needsEnsure that there is a sterile field during all surgical procedures Observe and report a break in sterile techniques Operate and assemble lights, suction machines and other types of diagnostic equipment Count sponges, needles, and other supplies before and after all operations Post-ProcedureClean and restock the operating room Reset up room with equipment and supplies for the next procedure Assist the Registered Nurse Other ResponsibilitiesPerform all other related duties as assigned in a professional and responsive mannerDemonstrate the ability to use relevant equipmentSupport, understand, and promote Alomere Health's mission, vision, values, policies and proceduresAbility to meet the work schedule requirements with flexibility dependent upon the needs of the departmentFoster respectful working relationships with professional colleagues, patients, families, and general public regardless of age, gender, lifestyle, culture, beliefs, race, socioeconomic class, or abilityRequired QualificationsSurgical Technologist Certification Preferred QualificationsExperience in a similar roleAssociate degree in the field of surgical technologySupervisory ResponsibilitiesMentor and orient new staff membersMay supervise Student Scrub TechniciansKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong knowledge of current operating room techniques, procedures, instruments, and suppliesUnion PositionNo
