Job Description: Vacancy #: WF250272 Apply by: March 17, 2026 Title: Maintenance Assistant Location: Paint & Sign Shop Salary: $42,641 Grade: CSEA SG-9 Hours: Monday thru Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (pass days Saturday/Sunday) Duration: Contingent Permanent Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. OPERATING NEEDS: Valid New York State (NYS) Driver's License. The ability to safely use negative pressure respirators in accordance with OSHA and campus standards. Ability to fabricate and assemble a wide range of signage types. Including surface preparation and installation. Experience using different types of vinyl and the knowledge of the capabilities of those different types of vinyl. A base knowledge of materials that vinyl can be applied to, both indoor and outdoor. Proficient in the safe use of hand tools and power equipment such as saws, knives, grinders, drills, and tape measures. As well as using fluids such as cleaners and chemicals while preparing installation surfaces. Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, site plans, shop drawings, and technical manuals. Capable of performing sign installation at various locations on campus, including at elevated heights using ladders, lifts, or scaffolding (with appropriate training). Ability to perform physical tasks including carrying ladders and materials (5O+ lbs.). Ability to utilize a computer and associated software to receive, review, and close out work orders through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as AIM or similar.
