Employees can feel proud of being a part of something bigger and ultimately making changes for the better as part of that work.Internship OverviewThe Albany Office of New York State Governor Kathy Hochul is seeking two (2) energetic Special Event Interns to serve for the Fall 2026 - Spring 2027 term.This is a high-engagement role within the Executive Chamber, which hosts 30-50 special events per year across the state. Special Event Interns provide essential support for events at the Executive Mansion and State Capitol in-person, as well as regional events remotely. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the event planning process and diplomatic communications strategies from conception to execution. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who excels in fast-paced environments and is eager to develop specialized skills in diplomatic protocol and guest management.Key ResponsibilitiesEvent Planning & Support: Gain exposure to the full lifecycle of Executive Chamber events; support in-person operations at the State Capitol and Executive Mansion.Guest Relations & Management: Enhance communication abilities by managing guest interactions, including onsite greeting, registration, and photo line logistics.Protocol Execution: Learn and apply best practices for guest-facing components such as drafting formal invitations, RSVP management, and crowd management.Diplomatic Training: Develop specialized skills in diplomatic protocol, including forms of address, order of precedence, and proper flag protocol and usage.Database Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the Executive Chamber's contact database by tracking event attendance and documenting guest interactions.Collaboration: Build professional relationships with Chamber staff, fellow aides, and a diverse range of guests attending gubernatorial events.Qualifications & CharacteristicsStrong interest in event coordination, public relations, or diplomatic affairs.Exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills.Ability to think critically and solve problems in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.Highly organized with strong attention to detail and professional decorum.Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.RequirementsResidency: Must be either a New York State resident or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university in New York State.Education: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university (recent graduates are not eligible).
