Job Description:

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Health and Human Services Agency. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. Current vacancy is with the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months. Typical Duties Sort incoming mail, parcels and interoffice mail for appropriate department delivery; sort, weigh, classify and meter outgoing mail with correct postage; load and deliver mail according to route plan and time schedule; obtain receiving signatures in log book for incoming classified mail and parcel deliveries; process special categories of mail such as bulk pre-sort, certified, registered, insured, express and parcels; operate folding machine, mail inserter, electronic scale, drum scale and adding machine, and a computerized mailing machine; prepare courier tubs with U.S. and interoffice mail; maintain supplies, organize work area, and perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment; may unload freight using a fork lift and pallet jack; may operate equipment such as copier, adding and facsimile machine. Employment Standards Education/Experience- Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade AND six months of experience involving metering, processing, handling and delivery of mail and packages. Knowledge of - Math sufficient to compute percentages, decimals, and fractions; alphabetical, numerical and non-numerical filing, indexing and cross-reference methods. Skill/Ability to- Read and comprehend department regulations, postal regulations, equipment operating and repair manuals, and other technical information; write legibly to log information related to recipient and delivery of mail and parcels; code, sort, post and check materials; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; maintain work pace and accuracy when performing routine, repetitive tasks despite frequent distractions or interruptions; remain flexible under changing workloads; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with County staff and the public; work independently, or with minimum supervision; work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; Remain flexible under changing workloads and stress of meeting deadlines; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with County staff and the public; Lift, carry, or move 70 pounds of materials. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge of:United States Postal rules, regulations, and rates; recognize and maintain confidentiality of information in compliance with departmental regulations; plan and organize work; operate and maintain routine office equipment; train and assist new employees; operate a forklift and pallet jack. Skill/Ability to - Use personal computers, Postage meter, Folder/Inserter machine.
