Advanced Practice Provider Requisition ID req28872 Working Title Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Position Grade 16 Position Summary Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located on the main campus, North of Johnson Center and across from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday and is closed on all UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments (scheduled and same day), pharmacy, sexual and reproductive health, allergy and immunization, medical specialty clinics including psychiatry, sports medicine, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel health clinic and counseling services, as well as health education, prevention, and promotion. The University of New Mexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is seeking applicants for an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification to provide clinical support to our student population at the university. Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide general psychiatric assessment, medication evaluation and follow-up services for university students. * Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric assessment and medication evaluation services for university students. * Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's needs. * Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities. * Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. * Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members, including making appropriate referrals. * Collaborates with staff Psychiatrist on patients and assists with coverage when needed. * Complete electronic health records punctually according to record keeping procedures that are currently operative at SHAC and required by legal and ethical regulations. * Review on a regular basis the nature and state of individual caseloads with the Medical Director and/or Director of Counseling Services. * Consult with the Director of Counseling Services about clients who are complex, high risk, manifesting a high degree of psychopathology or expressing extreme problems in living, whereby good clinical judgment would dictate initiating the supervisory process. * Preserve the confidentiality and trust of clients while at the same time promote the best interest of the University and adhere to its recognized rules of procedure. Whenever it is ethically and legally permissible and in the best interests of the client or the University; cooperates with other appropriate staff of the University in cases or issues of mutual concern. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Conditions of Employment * CPR Certified. * May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening. * UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer. * Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. * May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable. * Must maintain certification status. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required. Certification/Licensure Eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant OR State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following experience and skills: * Demonstrated ability to provide psychiatric services (clinical assessment and crisis intervention). * Demonstrated commitment and/or expertise in working with a diverse student body, cultural competence, and attunement to the influence of cultural backgrounds, identity configurations, and other differences in mental health attitudes, stigma, and help-seeking behaviors. * Knowledge of current and emerging college-age mental health issues, and experience working in a college or university mental health setting and/or with an older adolescent population. * Demonstrated talent for collaboration; able to establish and maintain trusting, working relationships that reflect kindness, mutual respect, and honesty, with a highly diverse population of student, staff, and internal and external partners. * Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills.
