Job Responsibilities Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse provides nursing care and health education to students in coordination with other members of the Health Services team; acts as a liaison to the Center for Student Wellness and the Winthrop community; and assists with the clinic's administrative functions. * Functions as a nurse specialist in applying the nursing process: Assesses, counsels, educates and makes decisions regarding disposition of student health concerns; refers to the appropriate provider students in need of medical care outside the nurse's scope of practice; follows applicable standing orders and protocols as appropriate; possesses and maintains a working knowledge of nursing scope of practice and clinic operations; and demonstrates a working knowledge of commonly used medications, immunizations, lab tests, treatments and procedures. * Performs assigned tasks required to ensure effective clinical operations, which may include maintaining an inventory of durable medical equipment, medications and immunizations; providing consultation to students traveling abroad; providing education and outreach to other university departments; assisting the laboratory manager; performing tasks that allow the department to operate as a Non-Dispensing Drug Outlet; and testing, tracking and recording reportable conditions, as required by governmental entities. Attends and participates in staff meetings. * Demonstrates understanding and adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines for healthcare workers; maintains a safe, clean clinical environment; when assigned, ensures all equipment used in the clinic is in good working order and keeps a log of regular equipment checks, maintenance and cleaning; and completes annual lab proficiency training. Minimum and Additional Requirements Bachelor's degree in nursing, a three-year diploma in nursing or an associate's degree in nursing. Valid, unencumbered South Carolina or multistate compact registered nursing license. Current American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. Functional ability to apply all aspects of nursing care to a diverse, college-aged patient population, including the ability to interview and triage patients, make decisions regarding disposition of care, and perform basic medial procedures required in an urgent care setting. Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner take initiative. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Sufficient technical skills to perform job duties at a high level. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, students, co-workers, faculty, staff and the general public. Effective organizational, interpersonal and teaching skills. Preferred Qualifications Basic computer skills and experience with electronic medical records.
