Overview The Employee Health Nurse is responsible for providing routine health care for NCH new hires and employees. (1) Full-time- 40 hours per week, day shift, weekdays (1) Contingent- Minimum of 16 hours per month Minimum of pay range is $32.00/hour | Pay to commensurate with experience Seeking candidates with at least two years of direct care experience as an RN. Responsibilities Demonstrates competencies defined (*) in Employee Health Nurse Responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to young adult and adult patients. * 1. Conducts employment health assessments, annual TB surveillance testing, immunization administration, and other routine screenings and nursing care ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and NWCHI policies. * 2. Makes initial assessment of employees who report for service. a. Provides first aid and appropriate nursing interventions based upon assessments and protocols. b. Dispenses over-the-counter medications as needed under nursing protocol. c. Provides immunizations, TB testing, medications for prophylaxis based upon protocols/MD orders. d. If further treatment is needed, refers to Employee Health physician, personal physician, Urgent Care Center, Adult Emergency Department, Staff Assistance Services, etc. e. Involves employee in plan of care. 3. Maintains employee health records on all employees, including immunization and TB surveillance testing records. Enters data into Employee Health data base, STIX. 4. Consults and advises regarding immunization records on affiliating student nurses and any other designated affiliating students or contracted companies to comply with Infection Control policies. * 5. Performs pre-employment, or for-cause drug screening, as necessary, maintaining confidentiality and adherence to the chain of custody protocol. Reports positive results to the Medical Review Officer physician for follow up. * 6. Collaborates with the Department of Epidemiology and department manager in the treatment and follow up of employees with work related exposures to infectious agents and contagious diseases. Consults with the Employee Health Physician, or Medical Director, Epidemiology regarding specific infectious diseases. Makes referrals for counseling regarding infectious disease exposures as needed for employee concerns. 7. Collaborates with Human Resources and BWC TPA to insure incident reports and Workers Compensation records are accurate and timely. 8. Reviews and provides follow up to employee injury events entered in CS Stars . Identifies and communicates specific and general employee safety issues to Employee Health Manager, Hospital Safety Officer, Legal Services, Human Resources as appropriate. Follow up as appropriate to rectify safety concerns. 9. Attends workshops, seminars, inservices and conferences to expand knowledge base regarding professional and practice areas, to meet NWCHI requirements, and Ohio RN continuing education licensure requirements. * 10. Participates in special employee health promotions and wellness programs. 11. Serves on NWCHI committees as assigned. 12. Maintains appropriate documentation and reports to ensure compliance to regulatory agency requirements. 13. Maintains records, prepares and submits monthly activity and infectious disease reports to the Employee Health Manager.14. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Registered Nurse with current Ohio license required. Current health care provider CPR certification required upon hire. 2. Two to three years experience as a direct care nurse. Adult outpatient nursing experience preferred. 3. Analytical ability and clinical skills necessary to evaluate the physical and/or mental condition of the employee and determine the appropriate course of action. 4. Interpersonal skills necessary to work with hospital employees, the medical staff, members of the community and regulatory agencies. 5. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding health services information. 6. Neat appearance and professional demeanor. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Applies the principles of body mechanics in lifting or moving people, or equipment (occasional) Must be able to independently lift 35 lbs (occasional) Physical ability to retrieve and file records in 3-5 drawer file cabinets (frequent). Must be able to sit (frequent), stand (frequent), walk (frequent), stoop (frequent), bend over (frequent), and type on keyboard (frequent). Ability to communicate in person and by phone (frequent)
