POSITION SUMMARY The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing nursing care and procedures to students under the direction of an RN, physician, or other authorized health care provider. The LPN is responsible for assisting students in their efforts to attain a healthy lifestyle by providing a caring, professional environment which supports the physical and emotional well-being of each student. The LPN functions under the supervision and guidance of the Director - Health Services and participates in the multi-disciplinary process of providing care and treatment to patients and provides clinical support and technical assistance to the professional medical and other staff. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Assists with patient flow. Monitors patient arrival, escorts patient to exam room, monitors patient wait times, assists patient in preparing for exam and advises physician when patient is ready. Assists during examination if required or requested. * Maintains confidentiality on issues under HIPAA and FERPA. * Interviews patients, obtaining vital signs and recording their medical history. Answers phones, responds to inquiries and triages calls to appropriate personnel. * Administers injections of medications. * Observes and records patients' conditions and reactions to medications and treatments. * Provides assistance in managing infectious illness outbreaks and preventative precautions. * Performs annual student health screening tests (e.g. hearing, vision) of students; performs other tests i.e. EKGs on students as necessary for clinical symptoms and medication monitoring. * Obtains laboratory specimens as ordered, arranging for timely transportation to the lab for accurate testing. * Assesses student immunization records for completeness, using ACIP guidelines as the gold standard. * Any and all other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: * Certificate of completion of an approved LPN program. Licenses / Certifications: * New York State Licensed Practice Nurse. * Valid CPR and current CPR Certification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * One (1) year of experience in a clinical setting. * Higher Education experience preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS * Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills. * Strong customer service skills. * Ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously. * Work independently with minimal direction. * Ability to work independently or in a team environment and maintain effective working relationships. * Demonstrate sound judgment and decision making with confidentiality and discretion. * Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously. * Strong computer skills, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint. WORKING CONDITIONS * Must be able to work a flexible schedule with overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs. * Ability to physically respond to ill and/or injured students in other in areas of the campus. * Ability to transport patients in a wheelchair. * Ability to bend, and lift patients, supplies. * Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
