These applications include robotic integration into advanced casting and forging applications, as well as complex offline programming and integration for the development of a one-of-a-kind, world class a plasma arc welding directed energy deposition (PAW-DED) cell for large format robotic metal additive manufacturing. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing all aspects of the respective manufacturing processes, including (but not limited to) safety, integration, robotic programming (both teach pendant and offline programming), maintenance, etc. This role requires technical expertise in robotics engineering and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards in a hazardous environment. The candidate will benefit from having welding experience, particularly TIG and/or plasma welding, and will be a member of the LIFT Manufacturing Engineering team in a hands-on environment to support delivery against key technical programs and objectives, leveraging a variety of traditional and advanced manufacturing tools and technologies.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIESProduction and Operation:Develop robot pathing and programs ("CAD to tool path") for large and small format robotic PAW-DED additive manufacturing.Aid digital engineering team with process monitoring to close the digital feedback loop creating "born certified" parts.Operate advanced manufacturing equipment used in processing metal alloys into components and test articles.Work with the Welding Engineer and larger team to dial in process parameters.Ensure that all products meet quality standards and customer specifications through rigorous testing and analysis.Work in a multi-arm (more than one robot) environment with coordinated motion to create novel free-form geometries.Design in CAD environments (e.g. Siemens NX) to create or modify geometries.Inspect 2D prints for tolerancing, GD&T, and release to internal or external stakeholders.Maintenance:Lead equipment cleanout/changeover processes to ensure safety, quality and reduce downtime.Track and lead routine and preventative maintenance activities to ensure safety, quality, and reduce downtime.Safety, 5S, and Compliance:Adhere to safety protocols to minimize risks associated with robots and welding.Follow procedures for sorting, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain to ensure a safe and organized work environment.Participate in regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety regulations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:Education and Experience: A B.S. degree in engineering, manufacturing, materials science, or a related field is essential, with 5+ years of experience in robotic production and processing, ideally with competencies in offline programming and in-situ process monitoring and compensation. Direct experience with robotic welding, additive manufacturing and/or machining, is highly desirable. ORA Ph.D. degree in engineering, manufacturing, materials science, or a related field is essential, with 2+ years of experience in robotic production and processing, ideally with competencies in offline programming and in-situ process monitoring and compensation. Direct experience with robotic welding, additive manufacturing and/or machining, is highly desirable.Technical Knowledge: Technical expertise in pathing and programming is required. Candidates should have an understanding of PLC communications and integration, robotic I/O's, CAD, CAM, and advanced manufacturing technologies relevant to robotic automation. Experience with Fanuc robots and controls, as well as Siemens PLC and CAE suite are highly desirable.Safety and Compliance: A thorough understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance related to robotic motion is essential.Leadership Skills: This position has no direct reports; however, candidates should demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate team members, foster a culture of collaboration, and support continuous improvement initiatives.Communication and Problem-Solving: Strong communication skills are vital for effectively coordinating production schedules, addressing technical challenges, and liaising with internal stakeholders and external partners. Candidates should also possess excellent problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions in a dynamic manufacturing environment.Adaptability and Resilience: LIFT is a highly dynamic environment. A good candidate should be adaptable and resilient, capable of managing change and driving innovation to maintain competitiveness and sustainability.About LIFT:LIFT, operated by the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (ALMMII), is a public-private partnership to develop and deploy advanced lightweight materials manufacturing technologies and implement education and training programs to prepare the workforce.
