Position Overview:The Novelis MMP Engineering and Technology group contributes to Novelis globally in Remelt and Recycle facilities through multiple avenues of engineering. With a strong focus on innovation, the Engineering and Technology group finds new technologies and innovates new applications to improve processes and equipment. By being familiar with suppliers, the Engineering team provides specifications and recommendations for equipment purchases. The Engineering and Technology team is also used as a technical knowledge base, wherein Novelis plant personnel request guidance, investigation, or interpretation. The engineering requirements of the Spokane plant are also supported by the Engineering and Technology team. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will provide support for the mechanical portion of capital engineering projects, specifically with a focus on Cold End (recycling) process equipment. These capital projects incorporate new technologies requiring process and equipment expertise for construction, commissioning, and startup phases.All candidates should make sure to read the following job description and information carefully before applying.Responsibilities:Act as a mechanical authority for equipment in various areas of the recycle and remelt processes, including the cold end, hot end, and casting areas.Provide innovative ideas and engineering support for research projects focused on recycle, remelt, and casting equipment.Provide support to internal customers with regard to equipment for day to day fixes and for larger capital projects.Use CAD software such as SolidWorks and Autodesk products for design support and equipment improvements.Work with external suppliers on the design and testing of equipment.Maintain patent reviews / invention records / patent applications during initial product design work. Participate in projects that generate IP.Be responsible for the quality of assignments with moderate scope and complexity involving application of standard scientific practices, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.Performs hands-on tasks related to experimentation, fabrication, assembly, and installation tasks alongside team members.Propose, support, and lead moderately sophisticated projects for a site or segments of larger projects with regional or global impact. Work cohesively with teams of other specialists to complete project objectives.Manage and coordinate schedules for clear communications with project team and project collaborators.Plan for resources and expenditures that impact project timelines.Deliver data, reports, and communication to project collaborators.Use equipment in a safe operating manner.Perform all of the above responsibilities with a safety-focused approach.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited university.Minimum of 5 years of dynamic experience, or equivalent experience.Intermediate experience with drafting techniques.High level skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Applies sound engineering and time management skills to accomplish a wide variety of technical tasks on the plant/regional level.Considers fundamental aspects in problem solving (e.g. economics, operations, maintenance, and technical) in area of responsibility.Able to optimally present technical information to peers or superiors.Proven track record to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams and work in a matrix environment.Confirmed experience as a self-starter, who effectively prioritizes multiple tasks, achieves results with minimal direction and possesses excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.Position will require travel to support customer base, develop understanding of prospective technologies, and support capital projects.
