This individual will lead our engineering team in the design, development, and maintenance of precision calipers. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, performance, and market success of our caliper products. They will be responsible for building brake caliper specifications and quality standards, reviewing the existing assortment, and working with the Caliper Product Manager to develop future caliper product solutions. This includes evaluating blueprints or creating line drawings in CAD, assessing individual caliper component specifications, working with testing facilities on quality standards, and partnering with sourcing to ensure caliper specifications are in line with what is expected. The Caliper Engineering Manager will understand PowerStop brand and way of doing business and incorporate their expertise and best practices to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to refine the design process and guidelines, evolve our quality and testing approach, and solve problems to drive exponential success for our caliper business and overall company growth.Apply (by clicking the relevant button) after checking through all the related job information below.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Lead development of brake caliper specifications, which includes various styles of piston seal grooves, caliper piston seals, phenolic caliper pistons and finish (plating, powder-coating, paint), as well as establish tolerances for bore sizes, roughness of as-cast surfaces, concentricity, and RMS finish.Oversee the design, development, and improvement of caliper products, ensuring they meet high standards of accuracy, durability, and performance.Collaborate with Caliper Product Manager to develop new part numbers, estimate the lifespan of caliper related to vehicle lifecycle, intake customer feedback for product refinement, etc.Leverage engineering perspective for product design, from evaluating blueprints to using CAD software for drawings to ensure completeness and tolerances for current and future caliper part numbers.Work hand-in-hand with Caliper Technicians on caliper part number development, measurements, and testing as an expert resource for the team.Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains, driving initiatives to enhance product development and processes.Drive caliper testing agenda: Build approach, work with third-party testing services for initial qualifications to ongoing quality assurance, evaluate lab equipment, and institute in-house testing as appropriate.Identify potential risks in product development and implement strategies to mitigate them.Communicate with Sourcing, Quality Control, and Customer Service on a regular cadence to ensure quality standards are continually being met and look for ways to optimize product performance.Provide updates to senior leadership and broader stakeholders on caliper product development and quality specifications with the Caliper Product Manager.Other duties as assigned.Core Competencies:Model PowerStop's core values and behaviors as outlined in the Mission StatementFirst - Do The Right Thing - Win as a Team - Focus on the Customer - Act with Urgency - Drive ResultsRepresent Power Stop in a professional manner.Strive for the highest standard of technical proficiency and engineering expertise in caliper design and development.Approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset, seeking creative and effective solutions.Excel in project management, demonstrating a knack for planning, organization, and the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.Always follow all company Environmental and Safety policies and procedures.Treat everyone with respect and dignity, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences.Act with honesty, transparency, and ethical behavior in all dealings and maintain the highest standards of integrity.Possess the capacity to address and resolve caliper-related issues, both proactively and reactively, to ensure a smooth and error-free customer experience.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent5+ years of brake systems engineering with in-depth knowledge of brake caliper engineering and testing.Extensive experience in caliper development, from design blueprints or CAD drawing and specifications to validation and testing, including a proven track record of successful product development and team leadership.In-depth understanding of elastomers (rubber, EPDM) is required.Comfortable using metrology equipment such as precision calipers, and gauges (telescoping, bore, depth, RMS, dial indicator, Mitutoyo contracer).Proven expertise with third-party testing for brake systems, from standard procedures to product and component-specific benchmarks, translating expectations into guidelines for sourcing.Exceptional organizational capabilities and track record for leading multiple projects simultaneouslyProficiency with digital tools and resources: CAD software, Motor data, Microsoft Office SuitePossess strong attention to detail, and ability to interpret and quantify large sets of automotive data.Possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills to collaborate with diverse teams.Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.Automotive industry experience or a passion for automobiles, a plusStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in data analysis.Equal Opportunity Employer:All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, age, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, or national origin.
