As a Principal Software System Engineer, you'll work with senior management to implement strategic plans and objectives, including managing delivery of high-quality results and complex solutions. In this role, you'll be responsible for being the Principal Software System Engineer for Iridium's new NB-IoT program known as Stardust, and your primary focus will be all technical aspects of the architecture and design of the space-based functionality of that service. You'll be successful in this role if you have extensive experience in Software and System Engineering and in-depth knowledge of both space and ground telephony networks and have worked with 3GPP specifications and specifically NB-IoT.What You'll Do:Use your breadth of knowledge to support definition and decomposition of system level requirements, ensuring system engineering best practices and processes are applied to payload systems developed for the Dynamic Network Architecture programPerform required analysis, definition, decomposition, and managementBe responsible for exercising technical authority over projectsWork closely with Project Managers and the Software Development team to determine resource needs, technical development schedules, and major milestonesConduct required system analysis (functional & performance), interface definition, and detailed trade studies, analyzing multiple data sources to respond to frequent, complex, and high-impact situationsLead the segment technical team in support of major reviews such as: Software Requirement Review, Preliminary Design Review, and Program Increment DemonstrationsResponsible for the coordination and delivery of multiple or complex technical assignments designed with end goals in mind, including managing shifting prioritiesResponsible for ensuring that projects deliver quality results, activities are well designed and overall project objectives are metPlay a key role in providing system engineering best practices in program design and deliveryPartner with stakeholders to understand their technical needsDemonstrate the ability to understand how complex issues are affecting project operations, and identify and design the formation of innovative solutions from concept through to completionComfortably present complex results with limited preparation and develop ability to speak persuasively to those within the teamIdentify and manage issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of complex factorsUtilize critical thinking skills to better design new or developing systemsWhat You'll Need to Succeed:Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field of study10+ years related system experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications development or real time embedded software development preferably in a space environmentProven track record of serving as lead engineer on different projects or tasksExcellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniquesCan easily build meaningful relationships with others, including senior leadership outside of your own department and is comfortable providing constructive feedback to your team members and managementBe able to analyze a situation or problem, generate effective solutions, and see those solutions through to completionMust possess the creativity and resourcefulness needed to make reliable decisions and determine methods on new assignmentsCan thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks and managing shifting prioritiesBe proactive in sharing knowledge you've learned with othersWe'll also need you to:Be able to travel up to 15 days annuallyBe a US Citizen with no dual citizenshipsWork Environment:This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer.
