Sustainable Energy EngineerCheck you match the skill requirements for this role, as well as associated experience, then apply with your CV below.Job DescriptionEnergy Innovations, a department of ASU Facilities Development and Management, Sustainable Energy Engineer to perform detailed analyses and develop projects from strategic planning through project proposal development phases in the areas of distributed generation, smart grid, microgrid, energy storage, operational optimization, energy efficiency and utility investment strategies in order to advance ASU's energy and sustainability goals and initiatives.· Maintain a strong working knowledge of ASU's existing utility infrastructure, energy use, demand profiles and applicable utility rate tariffs.· Perform comprehensive technical, financial and feasibility analyses to make recommendations and proposals relating to energy generation, storage, distribution and management systems; energy procurement strategies and transactions; and building and other load operation strategies that are economical, sustainable and reliable.· Develop technically sound documentation that effectively communicates and justifies proposal/recommendation positions.· Review and update ASU energy related guidelines and standards.· Work with various ASU departments and key ASU faculty/researchers in the course of developing recommendations/proposals.· Perform systematic life-cycle cost analyses to provide a basis for comparison amongst recommendations and other options, considering such factors as energy consumption and demand, operations, maintenance, repair/replacement costs, escalation and residual value.· Seek emerging solutions, technologies and strategies to solve or address ASU challenges/goals.· Participate in business related discussions with internal and external entities.· Work with Purchasing, other departments and/or Management to shepherd and negotiate energy related agreements to achieve low-cost/high quality services, goods and energy delivery.· Champion projects up to management and funding approval. Support the implementation efforts with Capital Programs Management Group during design and construction, and Facilities Management during operation.· Prepare correspondence and communicate with other departments and organizations regarding status or technical aspects of proposed projects.· Analyze current and future energy needs, and provide recommendations on how to satisfy those needs.· Perform financial evaluations, including determining net present value, internal rate of return, and amortization schedules.· Assist with the development of campus energy and infrastructure master plans.· Participate in professional growth and development.· Oversee the use of outside consultants to assist in achieving department goals.· Produce reports, agreements, and data analysis to inform policy makers, legal, students, staff, faculty, management and others about energy resource issues.· Present and assist with preparing presentations to management and outside groups.· May supervise, lead and monitor activities of subordinates.· Organize resources and manage multiple concurrent projects and assignments.· Establish and maintain effective working relationships.· Communicate, participate and encourage support of the institution's sustainability programs.· Perform other assignments and projects as directed.DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or other technical fields (e.g., physics and sustainability) and three (3) years of energy-related experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.Employee may be required to possess a valid US Drivers license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.Desired Qualifications· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering· Master's degree in Engineering· Two (2) or more years' of experience as an electrician· Active Professional Electrical Engineer registration in the State of Arizona· Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) accreditation· Certified Energy Manager (CEM) accreditationExperience in:· University campus, large facility, or related experience (2 years)· Energy modeling software (e.g., Xendee, SAM, eQUEST and EnergyPlus.)· PV energy system modeling software (i.e. HelioScope and PVWatts)· Electrical engineering software (e.g., SKM)· Structuring energy-related deals· Utility industry· Proposal development related to distributed generation, smart grid, microgrid, energy storage and/or utility investment strategies.· Setting up and maintaining databases· microgrid design· Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and integration of IoT into smart building/campus design and operation· building and plant controls· Applying and/or drafting building codes and energy standardsKnowledge of:· utility rate tariffs/rate structures· electric power systems
