Clinical Practice and Leadership: In collaboration with the Nurse Manager (NM), the CNL delegates and manages the clinical nursing team resources and serves as a leader and partner in the interdisciplinary health care team. Coordinates the delivery of care of multiple disciplines actively involved in the patient's care. Serves as an advocate for the professional and the interdisciplinary health care team.Serves as a change agent to design and evaluate care in order to improve patient outcomes and the patient experienceServes as a resource to charge nurse in order to match varying patient need and staffing resources including the competence level and experience of nursing staffDevelops, implements, and assures compliance with Nursing Practice Standards.Encourages staff participation on Shared Governance Councils, nursing committees, and organization committees.Maintains extensive knowledge of current professionalclinical issues and uses evidence-based resources to deliver nursing care to specific patient collaboration with the Nurse Manager, promotes excellence in nursing practice and the nursing process by serving as a clinical resource to nursing staff and the interdisciplinary teamGuides and instructs staff in their role as direct caregiversEvaluates nursing practice to provide clinical learning opportunities for staffAssists staff to incorporate evidence-based knowledge into their daily nursing practiceMentors staff in cultivating a caring-healing-protective environmentII. Staff Development: In collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Specialist andor Clinical Educator, uses appropriate teaching principles and strategies as well as current information, materials, and technologies to teach nursing staff. Provides opportunities for less experienced nursing staff to observe experts in clinical practice and fosters mentoring relationship in the patient care environment. Provides formal and informal educational opportunities on the unit to improve clinical skills of all staff based upon education needs assessment of nursing team members. Develops and implements an annual educational plan for licensed and unlicensed nursing staff, based upon patient population, nursing-sensitive indicators and other data sources such as National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), Press Ganey, Patient Experience and Core Measures.Plans and implements the orientation of all new colleagues and maintaining the educational files of all collaboration with Central Education, develops education programs designed to assist the staff nurse in the progression from novice to collaboration with the Nurse Manager and central education, plans, implements and evaluates the annual competency program (including the Skills Fair) for all colleaguesAssures compliance of all colleagues with Mandatory Educational programs, i.e. BLS, ACLS, PALS (if applicable)In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, assures compliance with regulatory requirements and assures the unit is in a continuous state of readiness for a regulatory survey, i.e. Joint Commission, DPHCollaborates with the Nurse Manager to provide opportunities for staff to:Participate in Nursing Shared Governance programsParticipate in EBPnursing research or performance improvement activitiesSet unit targets for certificationParticipate in professional organizationsIn collaboration with the NM, provides or oversees the education of the patient and family to understand illness and self-care conceptsRefer to appendixOrganizational RequirementsIncorporates Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Standards of Behavior, Mission Statement and Goals into daily plies with all Lahey Hospital and Medical Center plies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Hospital and Medical CenterMaintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.Participates in departmental andor interdepartmental quality improvement activities.Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department. Minimum Qualifications:Maintains extensive clinical knowledge of the patient population and possesses current clinical and leadership skills as defined by nursing specialty organizations and in compliance with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.Education:Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Masters of Science, Nursing or equivalent advanced degree in health related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in order to have full understanding of Nursing leadership and Education functions is preferred. Licensure, Certification, Registration:Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.Life Support Certification: BLS Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:Possesses analytical ability to define unit or service procedures, to independently oversee the application of methods guides and processes, to apply sound judgment in choosing proper course of action among multiple options, to interpret policies to assists in planning short to mid-range goals and determining measures and to assess and monitor progress toward unit goal attainment. Advanced critical-thinking skills, and the ability to identify improvement in clinical operations. Conflict resolution skills, including diplomacy, tact and listening skills, are required. Ability to prioritize in order to optimize time most effectively and efficiently and problem solve various situations. Must exhibit advanced interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Ability to lead, teach, mentor and develop staff. Ability to motivate others. Ability to present information that is easily understood by learner and able to select and modify materials provided to patient and other health care staff based on the learners ability. Computer competency: Shows how to use a standard desktop and windows based computer system, including a basic understanding of email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Competency in the use of spreadsheets, databases, and functions of the job.Experience:Progressive experience in health care including involvement in direct patient care, staff education, and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.5 years current, relevant nursing experience is required.An additional 1-3 years of training and education experience is required, preferrably in a healthcare setting.
