How You Will Make an ImpactThe Director of Payroll is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Payroll Department. This position oversees, implements and maintains payroll systems, policies and procedures, and compliance for the department which supports clients across a multiple states and multiple entities. They will oversee and supervise the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. The payroll team processes payroll for over 2,000 employees. This position reports to the Senior Director, Finance or designee. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.Oversee payroll automationOversee the internal and external Payroll Audits payrollsOversee the Reconciliation of the payroll tax returns for accuracyOversee the support of national school payrollsContribute to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior managementEstablish department policies, guidelines and streamline all payroll procedures and develop payroll process flows that have a significant impact on the organization.Consult with Payroll Provider regarding tax planning and system issuesManage payroll Handle amended tax returnsEnsure compliance with payroll laws and regulations at the state, federal, international levelEnsure that personnel or tax law changes are captured, that overtime or bonus payments are accurately distributed, and that timesheets are submitted and retained appropriatelySupport all departments with payroll information needed for AuditsCoordinate with Human Resources and Benefits departmentsCoordinate External Payroll AuditsEstablish and maintain a positive working relationship with all divisionsPerform administrative duties, responsibilities and activities that may be assigned or changed from time to timeSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage, coordinate, supervise, coach, and direct the hiring, training, timely performance development of team members, oversee their daily activities and oversee the daily workflow of the departmentQualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIESKnowledge of the payroll federal, state, local laws and regulations, policies, procedures, and practicesExtensive experience with the concepts and principles of Payroll AdministrationStrong computer aptitude, which includes expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word as well as experience with accounting software, is a mustExcellent written, oral, and presentation communication skillsDecision-making and leadership skillsAccounting skillsAbility to analyze data with particular attention to detailAbility to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlinesAbility to work as part of a teamMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field; or 2 years equivalent work experience demonstrating applicable skills in relevant industry or discipline (Equivalent experience is included in and not separate from total years of professional experience)5 years of experience in Payroll Management2 years combination experience in a Leadership and management role requiredStrong computer aptitude, which includes expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word, is a mustKnowledge of Paycom system for payroll processing preferredStrong customer service orientationExcellent interpersonal skillsAbility to travel in performance of job duties is requiredAbility to lift, carry, push, pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds of force (almost all office jobs)
