Title: Assistant BuyerLocation: Lee's Summit, MOReports to: Purchasing Manager Summary of Duties: The Assistant Buyer's role is to purchase materials, tools, equipment, services, and operating supplies that meet construction project requirements and company quality standards at the lowest total cost of ownership. Work with Field Superintendents, Tool Warehouse Specialists, Project Managers, suppliers, and others to provide the required materials, tools, equipment, and services in a timely manner. Document purchasing activity to ensure that accurate records are available. This is a 100% on-site role in Lee's Summit, MO.Position Responsibilities:Work with field superintendents and project management to purchase required materials, tools and equipment, supplies, and services for construction projects and business operations. Process material, tool and equipment requisitions and jobsite general conditions requests and place accurate, complete orders. Order rental equipment for jobsites as directed by field superintendents and project management. Coordinate transfer of company equipment between jobsites with Tool Warehouse Specialist & carriers. Purchase general conditions for jobsites including jobsite offices, furniture, trash service, portable restrooms, ice, water, storage containers, and other services as needed. Place blanket purchase orders for industrial gases and gas cylinder rentals. Create, place, and track purchase orders from initiation through invoicing. Work with AP staff to resolve invoicing issues. Keep organized and accurate records of purchasing activity. Develop and maintain good working relationships with suppliers, project managers, field superintendents, and co-workers. Research potential new suppliers and make recommendations for competitive sourcing. Deploy to field locations when required to provide purchasing support for large projects. Provide support for maintenance and records related to company tools, equipment, and vehicle fleet. Prepare paperwork and packaging and loading of outgoing small package and LTL shipments. Perform small package and LTL truck unloading and notification of receipt of incoming shipments. Provide primary or backup assistance and cross train on various building maintenance functions and office operational supplies purchasing. Participate in department meetings. Other assigned duties. Education and Skills Required: Minimum associates or bachelor's degree, equivalent technical training, or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredTwo to five years of procurement experience requiredOne year purchasing experience in the construction industry preferredSpecific experience purchasing materials, tools, equipment, and services related to the mechanical construction industryCompetencies to perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this positionAbility to purchase a variety of materials, services, supplies, and equipment with varying levels of technical complexityDemonstrate the ability to multi-task, be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and timelinessProficiency with MS Office, SAP, and Company propriety software; the ability to perform effective job-related internet research; and the ability to interface with the IT DepartmentBasic knowledge of accounting principles and proceduresKnowledge of industry terminology with a strong attention to detailWork Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
