Job Description:

West Mermis, PLLC is looking to add a highly skilled, full-time litigation paralegal to our team.  Located in downtown Houston, West Mermis represents clients throughout Texas. West Mermis is a full-service construction law firm that also provides commercial litigation services to its clients. To be considered, please provide a cover letter and resume. If possible, please add your cover letter and resume to one document, as there is only the option to upload one document.Responsibilities Manage document production processes (hard copy, electronic, etc.), collect material from client, opposing parties, and third parties (hard copies, electronic data, physical evidence), maintain chain of custody, track materials through the process, prepare privilege logs, manage logistics of production of documents (hard copy, images, native)Convert electronic document formats for Bates labeling and production including, but not limited to, native email and photo files, Excel, Word and PowerPointAnalyze documents and materials, perform factual research, compile information into charts, graphs, and timelines, research prior testimony and publications of opposing experts, perform research regarding rules of procedure for relevant court venues, and assure adherenceCoordinate preparation and filing of briefs and legal documents: legal cite checking, sherardizing (Westlaw, Lexis), fact checking, compile appendices and exhibits, Blue Book formatting, application of local rules, file with court and serve on partiesInteract with outside entities (clients, government agencies, expert witnesses, consultants, other law firms, opposing parties, court personnel, etc.)Manage preparation for witness testimony and depositions, manage preparation of witness & subject files, assist in preparation of witness outlines, work with expert witnesses, manage technical logistics for depositions (remote hookups, electronic transcripts, videography, synchronization)Prepare and cut video deposition testimony for use in mediation, arbitration and trialManage trial preparation and trial support, compile and track trial exhibits, prepare pretrial documents, set up and manage trial offices and trial support (e.g. remote office setup and logistics)Prepare Power Point presentations and other trial, mediation, and arbitration demonstratives in coordination with attorneysManage resources for trial including, but not limited to: Graphics Services, Purchasing, Trial Support Services and supporting vendors (graphics, court reporters, trial support, hotels, etc.)Serve as trial technician for presenting all forms of electronic evidence at arbitration and trial including coordinating with court or arbitrator IT personnel to assure all necessary equipment is availableCoordinate and set up remote trial presentation equipment as necessary QualificationsParalegal Certification or equivalent experience requiredBachelor's Degree preferred2-5 years Civil Litigation experience necessaryConstruction Litigation experience a plusStrong coordination and teamwork skillsProficiency at managing multiple cases and projects concurrentlyExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong computer technical skillsStrong problem-solving skillsOnline research skills including, but not limited to Westlaw and LexisProven onsite trial experience coordinating and preparing exhibits, demonstratives and electronic presentation of evidenceElectronic document filing and recording experience (PACER, Texas efiling, and Simplifile, etc.)Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Teams and OneNote); Power PDFAdobe and document management systems (NetDocuments, iManage, Worldocs, Sharefile, etc.)Experience in the use of litigation, project management andor eDiscovery specific software (Trial Director, Lexbe, Relativity, Summation, etc.).Fluency in Spanish a plusTotal Rewards We are committed to providing a Total Rewards package that attracts, supports, and retains talent through the following:Starting Base Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000Comprehensive and competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits & 401k planGym membership, generous PTO offering, and hybrid work opportunities are also offered to promote work-life balanceOn-the-job training, feedback, and ongoing educational opportunities to continue your personal and professional developmentWe are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
