Job Description:

About the Organization:Are you driven to be a major contributor in an organization that will provide groundbreaking technology in the medical device industry? Are you looking for an opportunity for growth in a company that values its colleagues and their ideas and experience? If you answered yes, then joining NanoDx Inc. may be your next best decision.NanoDx, Inc., is a privately held medical device company developing innovative, rapid, near-patient, point-of-care in vitro diagnostic solutions on its proprietary nanowire biosensor platform to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. We hold ourselves to the highest quality standards, ethical behavior, and integrity. NanoDx is headquartered in Southborough, Massachusetts, and has a pilot manufacturing operation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We currently have an exciting opportunity in our state-of-the-art laboratory facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts. NanoDx offers a robust salary and benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, Life, LTD, and FSA benefits. Position Overview:The Senior Scientist in Bioconjugation and NanoAssay Development will be part of our innovative research and development efforts focused on the creation and optimization of cutting-edge bioconjugation techniques and nanoscale assays. This role requires demonstrated knowledge and experience in nanoscale assay development, surface biology conjugation, physical chemistry (in particular on 2D surfaces), biophysics, and organic chemistry, aiming to advance our capabilities in diagnostics, therapeutics, and biomolecular research. The successful candidate will join our multi-disciplinary team of biochemists, engineers, and physicists and primarily focus on the development of thin, multilayer, selective organic stacks of proteins to inorganic 2D surfaces on our proprietary bioFET nanowire device to develop in vitro diagnostic solutions across various therapeutic areas to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:Research and Development: Lead the design and execution of research projects focused on the development of new bioconjugation methods and nanoassays. This includes hypothesis formulation, experiment design, data analysis, and interpretation. Analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot technical issues, and propose innovative solutions to optimize biosensor performance.Bioconjugation Technique Optimization: Develop and refine bioconjugation techniques to improve functionalization and modification of sensor surfaces to enable effective attachment of organic molecules, monolayers, and bioassays. Develop and optimize protocols for surface modification and immobilization of organic molecules and bioassays onto sensor surfaces (organic, silicon, and metal oxides), ensuring high specificity, sensitivity, and stability of biomolecule-nanomaterial conjugates.NanoAssay Development: Design and validate novel nanoassays for the detection and quantification of biomolecules, leveraging advancements in nanotechnology for enhanced sensitivity and specificity. Collaboration and Leadership: Work independently, but also as a core member of multi-disciplinary teams consisting of biochemists, engineers, physicists, manufacturing operations, and quality. Collaborates with other internal departments to plan and expedite project objectives to achieve product development milestones. Develop and transfer manufacturable processes related to the integration layer, including the development of QC methods as munication: Communicate with supervisors, colleagues, and other stakeholders in a clear, concise manner via oral updates, technical meetings, and written reports, including providing status updates and recommendations to Senior Leadership. Capture and analyze large data sets, summarizing results for technical and non-technical audiences. Evaluate successful performance andor deficiencies in products and experiments, including identification of patterns and trends and independent, critical review of results. Propose strategies and solutions to address identified technical and operational issues and establish robust sensor performance.Quality and Compliance: Work under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) at all times and under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) where required.Preferred Experience and Education:Educational Background: Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Nanotechnology, or a related field, with strong expertise and a demonstrated track record in the organic side of surface chemistry, bioconjugation, and functionalization of sensor surfaces and nanomaterials.Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years post-Ph.D. research experience in an industrial or academic setting, with a proven track record of innovation in bioconjugation and nanoassay development. Familiarity with biomolecules such as antibodies, nucleic acids, and common surface-ligand conjugation chemistries, as well as the tools and methods used to characterize these biomolecules, is highly desired.Technical Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with various bioconjugation techniques, nanofabrication methods, and analytical tools and techniques for characterizing bioconjugates and nanomaterials, including a wide variety of imaging and spectroscopic methods. (e.g., atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning and Cryo-electron microscopy (SEM and Cryo-EM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), fluorescence, near-field optical microscopy (NSOM), stimulated emission depletion microscopy (STED), photo-activated localization microscopy (PLAM), Stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM), ellipsometry, etc.)Statistical Techniques and Experience: scripting languages for data analysis, such as R, is highly desirable.Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage research projects, including team leadership, project planning, and budget management. Excellent mentorship skills to foster the development of junior team members.  Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of scientists and engineers.
