Job Description:

We are working with a small, entrepreneurial trial and litigation boutique, currently eight (8) strong. The firm, having a home base in Dallas, Texas, has just opened its New Jersey office in a location adjacent to the train station (conducive to easy commuting), as the situs for its mass torts practice. The firm is offering a ground floor opportunity for a smart, ambitious, hard-working mass torts litigation attorney, willing to forgo the usual trappings of a large law firm, to help it grow its Newark practice. Qualified candidates will be outstanding writers, as all of the firm's written work product must be clear, concise, and correct. They will also have two to five (2-5) years of litigation experience, preferably including at least one (1) year of experience at a mass torts firm; however, personal injury, medical malpractice, or even insurance defense experience may be acceptable. The successful, qualified candidate will be determined to build the firm's practice and to outwork, outsmart, and out-strategize opposing counsel, at every turn, to win cases for clients. Compensation will consist of a $120,000-$150,000 base salary (precise amount will depend upon attorney experience), bonuses, health insurance, and other employee benefits (to be described in further detail by the firm).About the FirmThe firm's New Jersey practice is highly entrepreneurial and consists, overwhelmingly, in plaintiffs' side mass tort contingency fee work. The firm maintains a strict, zero tolerance policy for harassment and personal abuse, particularly in relation to the manner in which lawyers treat associates and staff.ResponsibilitiesManaging litigation matters independently from client intake through trial preparationConducting research and drafting pleadings, briefs, and motionsAttending court hearings and arguing motions on behalf of clientsStrategizing and preparing for trial proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations and representing clients in those contextsHandling discovery, including but not limited to drafting and responding to discovery requests; resolving discovery disputes; managing e-discovery; and taking and defending depositionsProviding guidance and advice to clientsMaintaining knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes and applicable laws QualificationsBachelor's degree and law degree (LLM, JSD, or J.D. degree) from an accredited law school are required.2+ yrs. litigation experience are required (preferably, 1+ yrs. in a mass torts practice; however, plaintiffs' personal injury experience, medical malpractice experience, and even insurance defense experience are acceptable).Membership in good standing in the State Bar of New Jersey is required.Ability to handle a heavy workload with little supervision is required.Persuasive writing and verbal communication skills are critical, along with excellent time management and interpersonal skills.Candidates must be tech savvy, e.g., competent in Litify, SalesForce, and Microsoft Suite.
