Corporate Counsel - Regulatory Compliance Costco Wholesale Corporation, Issaquah, WADescription of position: Costco Wholesale is seeking an experienced business attorney to join the legal team at its corporate headquarters in Issaquah, Washington. Costco is one of the world's top retailers, with over 127 million cardholders and 862 warehouses in 14 countriesregions, and continues to expand globally. This attorney will handle a broad range of regulatory compliance matters, providing legal advice and counsel to a variety of Costco departments and business units in the United States. This attorney will supervise outside counsel and other advisors on a variety of non-litigation matters. The candidate must be comfortable operating in a team environment with confidence in his or her judgments and demonstrate an ability to communicate with all levels in the company in a concise and effective way. This position is an "in the office" (not remote work) position.Responsibilities: ·        Support Costco's Legal Licensing Team regarding alcohol and tobacco licenses. Handle government violations and investigations. ·        Provide legal advice to Costco's U.S. merchants and operators on a wide range of off-premises alcohol and tobacco matters, including advertising, minimum pricing, returns, private label supplier agreements, labeling, third party delivery, and food containing alcohol.  Advise business leaders with respect to legal issues and risk management concerning the sale and delivery of alcohol and tobacco and the development and implementation of company policies.·        Deliver advice on a wide range of regulatory compliance topics and programs, including green chemistry federal and state reporting and disclosure requirements, conflict minerals, state minimum pricing, motorized vehicles, contractor licensing, independent optometrist matters, third party insurance agreements, advertising in Puerto Rico, and the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Advise business leaders with respect to legal issues and compliance requirements on each topic and program.·        Identify opportunities for and offer training to business clients on various legal, regulatory, and compliance topics.·        For all substantive areas of responsibility, track and interpret existing and emerging regulations; advise on regulatory changes and enforcement trends; support the continuous improvement of legal processes and compliance practices; and collaborate with outside counsel, consultants, and cross-functional stakeholders.·        Monitor, manage, and review work and expenditures by outside counsel to ensure quality, value, and efficacy of legal services.Qualifications:Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.Admission in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state, and eligible to practice as in-house counsel in the State of Washington.At least six years or more of relevant experience acquired in a law firm or an in-house legal department, with some in-house experience preferred.Experience with compliance with laws governing retail operations and regulatory matters. Understanding of and experience with off-premises alcohol regulatory compliance is a plus.Excellent business judgment and ability to assess legal risk while also thinking strategically and providing practical, business-oriented advice.Demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse, complex and full workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues and providing solutions.Exceptional communication, drafting and analytical skills for working with lawyers and non-lawyers, including training experience.Experience overseeing outside counsel.Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.Strong execution and project management skills and ability to develop consensus among stakeholders from across the organization.Salary and Benefits: The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $165,000, depending upon years of legal experience. In addition to annual base salary, the total compensation package includes an annual grant of restricted stock units ("RSUs") and an annual bonus (based on company and individual performance). The combined value of the bonus and the RSUs is expected to exceed the base salary. Attorneys are also eligible to participate in the executive deferred compensation plan with a matching contribution from Costco, and receive other executive benefits.
