Summary This position is accountable for all aspects of Quality Management within the department. The job requires an extensive knowledge of professional grower soils products and respective test standards and the ability to perform products testing. This also includes responsibility for testing, studying, and resolving technical issues, management related issues, and the communication of quality related matters with respect to testing of production materials to ensure compliance. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Quality Control Laboratory which includes the supervision & training of lab and department employees and requisitioning necessary supplies and equipment. Key Responsibilities Responsible for all facets of ensuring quality in Growing Media and Mulch products at the plant-level, including, but not limited to - operations of the soils mixing line to produce high-quality mixes; formulation oversight and testing; incoming raw material inspection and testing; ensuring that all established specifications and processes are followedAccountability of assessments, inventory, and retained samples of all raw materials to include - Peat Moss, Perlite, Vermiculite, Processed Pine Bark, Fertilizers and Soil AmendmentsProvides oversight of other supporting plant operations, preparing blends, performing material handling tasks, performing line change over between formulas and assisting other production personnel to maintain facility housekeepingCross train and be proficient in facility Quality Technician duties and responsibilitiesRequired to take continuing education courses when available and at company's discretion EducationExperience High school or equal vocational trainingcertification, or equivalent of five (5) years of progressive related experience andor training; or equivalent combination of education and experiencePrevious management experience in quality control in productionmanufacturingDetail oriented, attentive to critical details, strong accuracy, and concentration skillsStrong leadership skills while maintaining a team atmosphereExceptional written and verbal communications skills with the ability to relate with every level of the organization, internal customers, vendors, and clients effectivelyProficient computer skills with abilities and knowledge of internet web-based management tools and Microsoft Office applicationsStrictly adhering to safety requirements, policies, and proceduresAvailable to work when the site is in full operation - nights and weekends when necessaryDegree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or Plant Sciences preferred Work Environment The responsibilities of this position are primarily carried out within a manufacturing environment, which may lead to experiencing extreme conditions such as weather conditions, hot or cold temperatures, noise levels that are loud and distracting, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, dust and dirt. All levels of exposure are regulated by OSHA, and PPE, which is provided, is required. Some responsibilities require working within an office environment.
