Full-Time ExemptSalary: $157,500Location: Houston, TXTravel Expectation: MinimalReport to: President and CEO The Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) is looking for the leader of our finance and accounting department. Established in 1990, the KCA is the leading kidney cancer advocacy organization, providing education, research, and advocacy to the medical community, patients, and caretakers. While having an established and reputable identity, the Kidney Cancer Association has launched new priorities under new leadership. The new era for the KCA contains ambitious goals, and this position is crucial in fulfilling those strategic objectives.KCA's Director of Finance will provide strategic leadership in a role that is both highly impactful and highly visible. The Director of Finance plays a critical role in the organization's business and organizational management, seeking to optimize both financial performance and organizational effectiveness, and facilitate long-term planning.The Director of Finance will be a key partner to the CEO, will develop strong relationships with managers and staff throughout the organization, and will work closely with lay leaders on our Board of Directors and Finance and Audit Committee. The ideal candidate for this position is analytical, collaborative, and results-driven, and will build positive relationships with a range of stakeholders. The Director of Finance should be equally comfortable working through strategy and details, with the flexibility to jump in at the level required for the task at hand. ResponsibilitiesServe as key financial spokesperson with KCA staff, Finance & Audit Committee, and Board of Directors +Prepare, analyze, and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner +Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements to senior management and the Board of Directors +Serve as key financial spokesperson with Finance & Audit Committee and Board of Directors +Responsible for treasury and cash management, serving as point of contact and relationship manager to KCA's external banking and investment advisorsDirect short and long-term financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and management +Lead the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; create projections and monitor progress and changes and produce monthly financial reportsCollaborate with Accountant and Team Leads to maintain accurate monthly financials and analysis of each division's budget vs actuals and year-to-go forecast, in addition to the overall budgetResponsible for managing and executing compliance +Responsible for preparation of IRS Form 990, overseeing external annual audit, recommending appropriate auditing firms to the Board for approval, reviewing firms' performance, and reporting back completed audit findings to leadership and the Board of Directors +Register the KCA with the appropriate European countries for VAT compliance. Work with in-country contracted firm to understand each country's requirements. Provide reports for filings as required.Remain up to date on best practices in nonprofit finance, business systems and internal control measures, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operationsManage and train accounting staffPerforms other duties as assignedEducation and Experience RequiredA bachelor's degree in accounting is required; certified public accountant (CPA) designation is highly preferred; a master's degree in business administration (MBA) or certified management accountant (CMA) is a plus. At least 5 years of financial leadership experience10+ years' experience in accounting, minimum 3 years in the non-profit sectorExperience working with external auditors, compliance, and regulatory oversightStrong knowledge of accounting processes and systemsExperience with processing and reviewing payrollImpeccable analytical skillsThe ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environmentExperience in QuickBooks requiredExperience with preferredExperience with CRMERM platforms preferred  Knowledge and SkillsAn authentic passion for our missionBroad knowledge of finance, accounting, and investment principlesFamiliarity of principles related to non-profit donationsAbility to analyze complex financial dataSuperior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial concepts to laypersonsDeep expertise in managing and coaching people and teamsCommitment to results, a "can-do" mindset, and outstanding problem-solving abilityStrong attention to detail and organization skills
