Job Description: PL is currently seeking a Research Engineer to join our Battery Development Team. The successful candidate will support PL's efforts to develop next-generation cathodes for its lithium-metal battery. The candidate should have an MSPh. D. degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. The candidate will work in all aspects of Li-metal battery cathode development including electrode slurry formulations, electrode coatings, cell fabrication, cell testing, material characterization, and failure analysis. The candidate should have a strong background in lithium-ion, lithium-metal, or related technologies. Responsibilities: Develop lithium-ion battery cathodes. Plan and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) independently, utilize statistical tools for results analysis, and determine the importance of multiple factorsparameters. Electrode optimization. Evaluate emerging cathode materials, electrolytes, electrodes, and cell designs for next-generation products with high performance and low cost. Analyze and evaluate cell data to determine the direct and interaction effects of the materials under evaluation. Plan and execute root-cause analysis of failures. Take appropriate actions during project development and launch. Collaborate with a cross-functional team in communication with material suppliers on the development and validation of new material specifications and the resolution of any quality issues. Qualifications:MSPhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Strong background in lithium-ionlithium-metal chemistry, applied electrochemistry, and electrochemical analysis techniques. Experienced in cathode surface coating technology. Highly organized individual capable of identifying opportunities and taking responsibility for project implementation. Experienced in different physical, chemical, and electrochemical characterization tools such as EIS, Rheology measurements, SEM-EDS, XRD, XPS and TEM. Capable of analyzing data and communicating relevant learnings to coworkers. An aptitude for creative thinking and complex problem-solving using innovative approaches. Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak with clarity and discuss effectively across departments. Self-motivated and a team player.
