R&D Solar Durability Technician (San Jose, CA)At Tandem PV we are a team of people who are passionate about building a more sustainable world by bringing more cost effective solar panels onto the market. Tandem PV is a leading developer of high-efficiency thin-film solar cells and modules using metal-halide perovskites in tandem configurations. TPV is scaling perovskite technology that combines exceptional product performance and durability. The company has demonstrated efficient durable cells, monolithic multi-cell submodules and packaged modules using scalable low-cost processing on R&D size samples, and is transitioning to product-size pilot development by expanding its team, acquiring production-style tools, and building out a pilot manufacturing facility. Sounds like a lot, right? It is, that's why we need an R&D Solar Durability Technician to ensure our durability tests are performed perfectly and show the world the impact of our technology.As a Durability Technician, you'll play a key role on the R&D team creating consistency in our testing processes, building set ups, and collecting data to feed back into the R&D process. This is a crucial next step in our growth and ability to scale as a company.To stand out in this role, you will:Build consistent testing hardware and software setups, then process small scale cells through those setups in a fashion that allows for clean data reads and outputs to the team. Your ability to do this efficiently means you'll create a system allowing our throughput to move 10 times faster over the next few months. That's real impact!Your keen eye for maintaining all wiring and assembly gear in a way that ensures cleanliness, consistent connection, and maintenance for long term use will result in clean data and usable metrology to confidently share our success with customers.Preparation is key in tests! You'll get samples ready for all durability testing; that means lamination, edge seal cutting, glass cutting, cleaning, etc. You'll be responsible for every step of the process. Throughout the durability process, we'll need you to maintain samples on durability tests; Pulling samples and processing them as needed.You'll use various metrology techniques to measure samples, including : JV, EL, PL, Microscopy, etc.QualificationsWe can teach a lot, but there are some basics you'll need to know to hit the ground running, that includes: Experience with electronics in testing environmentsExperience maintaining and troubleshooting processing toolsHands on lab experience - including knowledge of safety in a wet chemistry environment and safe use of hazardous materialsKey skills that will help you accelerate in this role include:A creative and curious approach to problem solvingSystems thinking - seeing each partpiece as a part of something bigger, piecing everything together for smooth connections and hand offs. Verbal and written communication skills are crucial - they also make for a safer and more efficient environmentIf you  happen to have these skills- it'll put you ahead of the game!Python programming experienceExperience working in a solar company What we offer: An awesome team of dedicated technologists changing the way the world is powered!
