Job Details***Full Time, Part Time and PRN available ***Travel PercentageAs needed for business requirements.Job CategoryAnesthesiaDescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: United Digestives Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) practices in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality, holistic, evidence-based anesthesia services. The CAAs main responsibilities are assisting in evaluating patients prior to their endoscopy procedure, administering anesthesia including monitoring patients during and post procedure under the medical direction and supervision of a qualified anesthesiologist.ResponsibilitiesClinical responsibility of the CAA is delineated by his or her clinical privileges and must be performed under the medical direction and supervision of a qualified anesthesiologist. CAA functions include, but are not limited to the following:Perform pre-screening evaluation (pre-calls) prior to day of procedure by telephone and chart review.Assist the anesthesiologist in gathering routine pre-operative data.Perform preliminary pre-anesthesia evaluation and physical exam for review by the anesthesiologist.Administer pre-anesthetic medications andor treatment as prescribed by the anesthesiologist.Obtain and prepare equipment, standard monitors, supplies, and drugs for the administration of sedation and anesthesia; perform safety checks as needed.Administer prescribed analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, or fluids necessary to provide anesthesia services.Perform all aspects of airway management.Assist and facilitate recovery from anesthesia by evaluating patient response and administering medications or fluids to maintain patient stability during transfer.Administer prescribed post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system.Administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post-anesthesia period.Evaluate the patients response to anesthesia and endoscopy; take appropriate corrective action during the post-anesthesia period.Participate and assist in post-anesthesia evaluation and care.Perform evaluation and treatment procedures essential to responding to life-threatening situations, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, on the basis of established protocols (basic life support, advance cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support.Support patient safety when performing job functions and through participation in company safety and continuous quality improvement initiatives.Take action to correct observed risks to patient safety.Report adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.Identify possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicate the same to those in charge.QualificationsHolds current active state licensure as a certified anesthesiologist assistant and complies with any applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning CAAs.Graduate of an anesthesiologist assistant educational program supported by an anesthesiology department of a medical school that is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or its equivalent.Is currently certified or recertified by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).One to three years anesthesia experience strongly preferred, prior endoscopy experience a plus; must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and with general use of an EMR system, ProVation MultiCare Giver experience preferred.Additional Skills And ExperienceCAA must have:Ability to perform clinically as a CAA in the endoscopy settingAbility to operate, use, and interpret data from a wide variety of equipment to perform anesthesia careAbility to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patient populationExcellent verbal and written communication skill are required to effectively collaborate with various clinical staff and other disciplinesAbility to interact with team members, patients, physicians, and visitors with courtesy and respectAbility to implement and adhere to company policies and proceduresProfessional DevelopmentParticipates in required educational programs and net learning.Participates in departmental meetings.Seeks ongoing professional educational growth.PHYSICALMENTALENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDSAbility to work under stress.
