Spanierman Modern a leading contemporary art gallery on the upper east side of Manhattan.  We are seeking a gallery associate to join our team. Prospective candidate must meet the following education and experience requirements:Bachelors Degree in the Arts &or Business from an accredited University5-10  years experience in a gallery settingGraphic Design knowledge preferredQualified applicants should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and an outgoing team player. They must be highly organized and have a strong ability to multi-task. The prospective candidate will possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills in order to greet visitors and answer questions. A background in graphic design is preferred, as well as interest in art, curating, arts management, or the commercial art world. Candidate must be personable, easily retain information about artists and exhibits, and can remember names and faces. This candidate must also be available to work on Saturdays. Qualified applicants may submit resume and cover letter to gallery director, Gavin Spanierman at DESCRIPTIONGallery associate will work alongside the Gallery Director to perform administrative, curatorial, and promotional tasks such as:Coordinate all outbound shipping, request quotes from shipping vendors, and present quote summary to Director and Associate DirectorConduct condition reports prior to all outbound shipments with photographs and inspection summary.Create visual renderings, proposals, advertising, decal and show invites.Prepare and create artwork presentations for clients, as needed.Maintain, update, and promote gallery social media outlets (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, etc.)Facilitate marketing efforts through distribution of press releases for gallery exhibitions and events to local press outlets, online calendars and more.Enter and maintain gallery inventory via cloud-based databases and website such as ArtCld and ArtsyEnter and maintain gallery contacts and new patrons in email database and direct mailing listsAssist with clients, prospective leads and appointments in the absence of Director and (i.e., email drafting, scheduling deliveries, etc.)Coordinate and communicate client delivery information prior to each appointment to the staff including the art handlersHelp prepare client invoices and purchase ordersIssue (physical & electronic) all certificates of valuation and authenticity for every saleAllocating display materials such as wall tags for all artwork on display, as well as for any possible off-site events and consignment locationsPerform additional tasks and duties as assignedBe able to travel for extended periods of time in order to attend,, and or work at art fairsTECHNOLOGY & SKILLSProspective candidate must have knowledge of and be proficient in the following software and computer programs:Mac Operating SystemsAdobe Photoshop andor Adobe InDesignMicrosoft WordMicrosoft ExcelDropboxMORE ABOUT Spanierman ModernWith over 35 years' experience in the industry, gallery owner, Gavin Spanierman, started at the historic Spanierman Gallery working for his father.  Opening Spanierman Modern in 2006 as an adjunct to Spanierman Gallery. Spanierman Modern has recently reopened on the upper east side.  This job is ideal for someone that is:Interested in a participating in all aspects of running an art gallery, administrative, sales, and curatorial responsibilities.Dependable - follows through with commitments and can be counted on to meet deadlinesPeople-oriented - enjoys interacting with peopleTeam player - works well in team settingsAdaptableflexible - enjoys doing work that requires frequent shifts in directionDetail-oriented - can focus on the smallest of details while keeping the bigger picture in mindSelf-starter - can take the initiative to complete tasks in a timely manner and prioritize them as neededInnovative - prefers working in unconventional ways or on tasks that require creativityMultitasking - thrives in fast-paced environmentCompany's website:Job Type: Full-timeBenefits: Salary $50,000-$100,000 + commission commensurate with experience and skill level Paid time offSupplemental pay types:Commission Work Location: In person
